Its faked/hacked
In 8-4 when he jumps down the tube the monster thing is still there. He clearly goes right through it and goes down the tube. Must of used one of the rom file hacks so where enemies cannot harm him

No cheat codes for Mario I've ever heard of. You can hack an Emulator though. Then you just use something like Fraps.

Yup thats what I was thinking of

Collision detection wasn't perfect back in the '80's. You can do that. I just tried it myself to confirm. Beating SMB really quickly has been a sort of hobby among some NES owners for quite a few years.

in SNES you could kill enemies by walking through them by using some wizard cartridge that you plugged the game into. Those were cheat codes though...and Mario was always flashing (don't go there) so it would be easily visible.

You mean the Game Genie?

I think a cheat/hack of some type was used also. In 8-4(I think) when he goes into the tube an is underwater. The firebars that are turning clearly hit him. Unless something is different in the emulation than the original game, you woulda been toast:noid

That is skill. Useless skill but skill non the less.

No, you wouldn't be toast. You can do that--it doesn't detect the hit.
It looks like a pretty standard "high speed SMB run" to me. As I noted before, that's a sort of hobby among some NES enthusiasts. It isn't all that uncommon; anyone can do it given several months worth of practice. In other words, even if the video is somehow faked--which is unlikely--it's nothing you couldn't do anyway. I've done it myself almost that quickly.
I suppose it's easier, though, to sit back and say "fake!" than to actually know what you're talking about. It works in the political threads, anyway.
"Life........get one."
Would a "normal" life be more like the guys on this BBS who build their own "sim-pits" for their airplane video game?

No, it's just the current internet BBS trend of calling everything "fake" or "photoshop" without actually having any knowledge of the subject at hand is something of a pet peeve of mine.

I didn't watch more than a minute but could tell he was using the game genie.
There was a code to be invulnerable and by the number of flowers I saw him go thru I can tell he was using it.
Our game genie is still at mom's so I could probably get the code for you.
