Title: Hardened Ammo Bunkers
Post by: LePaul on March 06, 2006, 08:07:46 PM
Any given night, I see the same, solo Typhoon dive in thru the ai ack, make a few passes and pork ordinance.  Then he flies away to another front line base to do the same.

Plus, for some reason, if I tried to strafe an airfields assets thru AI ack, first ping would be the magic bullet to my radiator!  :cry

But seriously, the ordinance pillaging is getting very, very old.

dude wouldn't you think bombs rockets and hundreds of cannon rounds which EXPLODE would set off an ORDANACE bunker!!! Also dude you gotta push the light speed button (FYI Dive and go uber fast like 550 to easily avoid ack.)

Have you ever seen an ordinance bunker or ammo dump?  We had some over here that were recently torn down to build an industrial park.  Cement, lots of cement.  Not something one would expect to see mauled in two strafing runs from a Typhoon.

Fixed, long term bases generally have very hardened bunkers....eventually.

Forward operating bases usually just have holes in the ground (or high berms, or combination), dispersed around, and far from everything else, in which to store the nasty stuff.

This is a compromise of sorts, especially since few people actively hunt the convoys in the game.

Yeah, the ever-present porking Typhie can be annoying, but if we were running combat patrols and interceptors, and defending the bases at least half-way decently at times, those porkers would not be as successful as they are...especially against the small fields.

Any "fix" or "solution" would probably entail a whole rewrite of the damage
models or cannons would become ineffective against other targets, or increase the ammount of damage required to drop bunkers and troops.

Improvise, adapt and overcome.

Dude.
I don't fly typhies....I can't stand the cockpit it gives me a headach and not enough fuel for me and escorting 30K bombers :).
