people have mixed opinions about the x52. i have to say the first few days felt odd because it was so sensetive, but after i week i fell in love with it.
i think mine is great. all personal preference. if you can go to an electrics store and feel how it goes for you. if you wont mind it too much, go for it, best £70 i ever spent:aok
-
Pooface is right. First week i didnt like it and wanted my x45 back. But after i talked to JB22 and found out some ways to make the stick a little tighter it was great.
It did take me some time to set up my stick and it is still not 100% the way i want it. But let me tell you the stick is worth it.

I've got a x52...I like mine alot...but It took me a long while to get the"sweet spot"...If ya buy one let me know and I will help ya set it up!!!

that's about what i paid yup.
it is different to the x45, but i really love it. you just gotta give it time. i have a great stick profile that's easy to use, and if you buy one i'll send it to you...
its a great stick, and personally i prefer the twist stick to the rocker, but again, some people dont like twist stick. if you have pedals, you can pull the rudder lock, a kinda tab on the base, that stops the stick from twisting if that's your thing
-
jebus mine is a little lose as far as the stick it self how did u get your more firm??
-
I never cared for the rocker on the 45 so I invested in a set of CH PRO peds.

yup. you can just lock the stick twist, so it works just like your old 45 would have done with peds. it's really great

much better deal on Saitek, comes with same warranty as new..

CH HOTAS.
-
The X52 is a LOT lighter on the springs. If you wont miss the stiff feeling of the X45, i guess youll do fine with a 52.
-
I cut back the spring on the X45 to liten it up some. That was no easy chore , I did it without taking the stck apart.
-
buy CH you wont be disapointed.
I've had SaiCrap sticks before. They broke just looking at them the wrong way.

Well, maybe you need to handle the sticks a bit softer, Morph ;). Not all of them like it rough :D.
-
something tells me morph only knows how to handle sticks ham-fisted and rough

gave wife my last Logitech FFB stick..all it's good fer.

Kaw. JB22 and i were talking how to tighten the spring. He said to take 1/4 piece of wood or heavy felt. Put the wood/flet between the stick and the spring so it puts some pressure on the spring. Pull the spring down and place it in that void. You can cut a hole in it so it fits better.
Pennies also work but when your in a dog fight sometimes the pennies fly out form the spring:O .
I found a piece of medal and brought the spring down and wrapped around the stick so the spring has some tension on it.:aok
-
The only one that broke from my doing was an X45 that would just decide to go full up elevator in a dog fight on its own and stall me out most of the time into the dirt. That ended up getting smashed against the wall. The rest of saicrap stuff belongs right with that stick, in the trash.
I dont care what anyone buys, im just telling ya, CH is the best.
-
Morph,
I have owned every stick ever made, well all the good ones anyways. I'm using the X-52 currently and I find the X-52 is 2nd only to the full CH HOTAS setup (of which I've worn out several). With the refurbished deal at $70 it's definately the best bang for the buck. Hard to justify the CH setup at $300+ when the Saitek is so low priced.
If Saitek made the same stick with gimbals instead of the stupid spring thing and rudder pedals it would surpass the CH IMHO.

I'm gonna back Morph on this one, I've been all CH since I discovered them in 1992 and I have never been disappointed... The few times I've tried to save a buck on another brand, or I've been suckered in by slick looking features I've regretted it and been back on CH within a week.
Some people don't like the light spring rate on the CH... And some of the little girly boys complain that it is built for big hands.. But I've never heard anyone dog the quality and I've never seen any stick that is more precise in movement.

Yep I just picked up the X52 for 109.00,I like the soft touch no more yankin the stick too and froe.

I'm with Morph and Kurt on this one. I've used every stick combo with pedals etc. in my almost 20 yrs of online flight sim participation. And hands down.....the quality, precision, and service combination of CH Products is unbeatable. Not because I use them......but because they by far are the most reliable HOTAS on the market. Several people playing AH are using some of my used CH stick, and Throttles that are six years old and better.
Yes.....you pay a little more....but in the long run in a period of 5 years you'd have owned 3 Saitek HOTAS, and probably more of Thrustmasters equipment.....and still be using CH HOTAS. You'll save money and get greater enjoyment from CH Products.
This coming from an old Fart who's already walked down the path you've just set foot on. :aok
-
This is my 3rd CH Hotas setup (one was pre USB... the 2nd one went through the now-dead-cat's claws). Can't part from CH, but you have to treat it lightly as the springs are very soft.
One thing with CH prods is that you need to clean the pots regularly.
-
I had my X45 for 5 years,so I can't complain. As for the CH HOTAS I've not beeen able to find them for a reasonable price that fits the bugget.
-
Ive owned and broken every major brand of stick or hotas out there.
The CH Products seemed to last the longest. During the daylight bombing historical, I did crack my rudder peddles. I still used them for a year or so before they gave up the ghost.
Just wish they made a wiggle stick, Im spoiled now.
The X-45 was easier to fly with, but broke to easy. Saitek and Thrustmaster both broke within a few months.
-
To the CH guys -
A full HOTAS set-up's gonna set you back around $300. For those with that kind of $ to spend, buy it. CH makes great gear and their' product support is terrific.
To the Saitek guys -
I've owned just about all of em and now fly the X52. For $100 you're buying a well constucted HOTAS. My joystick handle has the same tension as the X45, others seem to find it too loose. I've read that by inserting a penny into the spring, it will stiffen the stick considerably (insert funny quip here) :)
Jeff I agree that Saitek's previous gear tends to be very inconsistant cept for the Cyborg USB Gold which was simply a very sweet stick for $35. The X52 is very smooth and IMHO offers the biggest bang for the buck.
-
I like CH sticks and pedals, too. I've been using them since the early 1990's. Very sturdy, great feel.
-
For those who dont like the light stick inputs on the X-52 , it easy to disassemble the stick an pull the spring out to a higher tension rate, just pull it apart till it stretches the desired amount . I just finished tweaking my X-52 with a lighter rudder spring (from an evo) , then i switched the X and
Y axis Hall sensors, because the X axis sensor was much smoother than the Y. The Y sensor seemed to move in slight steps till about 1/2 way of its range . Ive had 3 X52's and 2 have had the same issue .
Every stick ive had, ive torn apart to tweak something i didnt like , the only perfect stick for me was the microsoft pp2 . Im still not happy with the X-52 , but im going to try to stick with it for more than a week this time . I
always seem to get mad and switch back to a Tm fox2, which also has its flaws . If the X-52 doesnt hack it this time , ill return it to compusa on the warranty, then offer the new one to an AH'er cheap.
I myself am sick of screwing around trying to find a stick that i like , im about ready to go CH and be done with it . For 10 years ive used a twisty so ive tried to avoid pedals as long as possible .
