Hi All,
Two recent articles have highlighted the fact that while Al-Qaeda has a presence in Europe and actively recruits and raises funds there, there is an active European Jihadist/Sharia movement with no direct ties to AQ. This means that the idea that the war on terror is a war just against Al Qaeda and a few middle eastern "terror groups" is getting extraordinarily thin. It also means that even if we are successful in dismantling most of Al Qaeda, that will do nothing to end the worldwide Jihad.

The Second article is a recent symposium on the alarming increase in the number of Muslim gang rapes of non-Muslim women in Europe which as those interviewed have pointed out is part of the ongoing conflict:

So you're saying it was an even bigger mistake to invade Iraq?
Since dismantling AQ was a secondary reason given (after no WMD's were found) for going after Saddam, and now it looks like that won't do any good anyhow.

That would make sense except for the fact that the AQ were in Afghanistan.

I think Seagoon is right to be concerned with Muslims in general, and not just the ones in "AL-queda" or however it is spelled.
I'm not educated enough on the subject to weigh in, but everything I've read suggests that there is a fundamental disconnect in the way we (i.e. westerners) and they (muslims) see the world. The gap appears to be so large that even Libruls and Consurvtivs appear to be one and the same to a Muslim.
They usually also appear to be the same to westerners who arent extreme on one end or the other, but only the Muslim has the irrespressable urge to blow them up.

I do not doubt that there is a wide gulf between extremist muslims and the west. There is also a gulf between muslim and anyother religion as well.
But, as some have postulated on this board, by taking the fight to them and the ME we will either eliminate or mitigate the threat from "them", then Seagoon's articles show the falsity (thank you Colbert) of that thinking.
If I interpet Seagoon's articles correctly, it means we should iradicate muslims period, as you cannot pin the tail on the AQ camel, since this is a world-wide Jihad.

Stringer, when you look at all the available data what do YOU see?
I see a single religion far more preposterous and threatening than all other religions combined X10. I see Islam.
Islam is the explosive charge that will detonate the globe, once and for all. Israel is the simply the tiny fuse that lights the giant charge. That’s what I see and I hope I see it wrong. I give the planet 5, maybe 10 years before incomprehensible violence and suffering engulf humanity and destroy civilization.

The problem started way back when many of these countries were ruled by western nations.
Actually the real problem started when the western nations pulled out and left the countries to figure it out for themselves how to rule. If they had been left to do so without the wests meddeling and need for their resources then it would have worked out in one way or another.
As soon as they figured out that they had something "we" needed the fire was light and then fuel has been tossed on the fire in the form of support to the group of people that best served "our" needs at any given time. Religion is just something the leaders of any of the given groupes has used to stir up the people to support their cause.
Why did Saddam suddenly become a muslim?
Why did Bush become so religious at one point in his political career?
Why is religion used to fuel the fire between Israel and Palestine when its really a fight for property?
Why am I loosing my ability to walk straight and keep the music down to a sensible level?
