The Jerry Cooney of the VVS

While I was a Russian Linguist in the US Navy, we used to comment on the need to include hull mounted sonar arrays on the Yak-38.
Would have at least made them useful when they ended up in the drink.

38s were the temporary solution, new Yak-141 was supposed to replace them. First and only supersonic VTOL so far. Only two were built, at least one crashed, and then Kiev/Minsk cruisers were taken off duty and sold to China...
38s were "beta" version, "better then nothing".
Yak-141 photos. (http://www.brazd.ru/catalog/craft/russia/yakovlev/yak141/photopart/unsort/)

The Yak-141 is sitting right next to the Yak-38 on the right.

Must be a new addition. I was in Monino on 2002 and I don't remember 141 there. IIRC only two were built...
-
there is a Mig-25 and a SU25 in the backround
-
I bet a Mig 27 instead SU25, and a Mig 31 behind.
-
And the TU144 tail sticking out.
-
The one in front of the Flogger is definitely a MiG 25.... the one behind it, how can you say it's a 31?

Yakovlev's supersonic VTOL naval fighter - the Yak-141 Freestyle - used to be in the Yakovlev museum.

The top of the tail is different on the Mig31/25.

Frogfoot, yummy. Did they have any 25T's or 39's there? They dont look too incredibly different, but I'm curious.
