i think the game we have presented to us today is ten times the one we had in AH1....... for graphics
maybe time to step up the realism?
first off, bomb craters on runways should be a problem for the aircraft using it.
second, when a pilot is killed, the plane should not blow up.
how about if it just lost its icon and rolled over like when a pilot bails out.
FAR too often are planes blowing up, which shows off the lack of debris and decent explosion model, not to mention it wouldnt happen in real life.
as a side move from this, planes should blow up on occasion when fuel tanks are hit repeatedly, or have a slim chance randomizer on fuel tank hits that makes them blow once in a while (higher % chance for cannon over MG)
added to this drop tanks need to be modeled for damage. you hit someones drop tank with a 20mm round and i'm geussing at least 70% of the time you're gunna have a fire ball on your hands.
thirdly, and very importantly imo, when a plane ditches or crashes into the water, there is no spray or surface disturbance. this looks terrible.
fourthly, trees are not sufficiant cover from heavy rapid fire weapons.
finally, why do both tail planes always fall off even if only one has been hit?
just a few ideas, tear em to shreds boys.

im for all of em:aok

dont like it. last thing we need is 1 tard bombing a runway with a single bomb and put it out of operation.
-
how does a single bomb put a whole runway out of commision?
i'm estimating the only way a lone player could do serious damage to a runway would be with 100lb'ers in large doses.
even with 50 craters you can still take off on the undamaged areas of the field, like grass, and hanger pads.
i really don't think it would be possible to lay enough bombs down to make taking off totaly out of the question.
as it is now we fly right through the ridges and over the 'craters'. I understand the modeling 3D craters is not a good idea, but damaged landing gear must result from crosing a crater.
-
a bomb on the spawn area would disable that side of runway, a bomb in the middle would disable the runway taking off in both directions for bombers because they are unable to avoid them.

roll out the hangar, or on takeoff go round the craters
-
admitedly a smattering of craters down a runway would make buffs taking off harder, but still far from impossible.
-
and rolling out of the hangars and across the fields in bomber formations improves the realism?
Maybe for TOD make it so that you can bomb runways and make them unop, but no way in the main arena.

How do the "smart bomb" wielding 3 plane formations fit into your
realism equation?
-
realism on a physics side not 'historical realism'.
-
I don't like the crater idea either. All others are good.
-
You can always pretend that craters damage you.

Tell that to the late Lt Col Tommy Lynch.
-
i see your point murdr, but did he blow up because he got shot in the head?
-
His engine was hit from naval MG fire. He broke off his attack and limped away. Within minutes, his prop came off, and his P-38 exploded while he was trying to bail out. I dont expect HT to model the physics for that to happen, or many other oddball variations that would cause a plane to explode in flight. What I am saying is that there are many situations that could cause a plane to explode that may not fit a preconceved 'realistic' scenerio. On balance I think the way it is modeled now makes up for those unforseen situations.
I don't really have an objection to an occational random (pilot dead=icon disappears and ghost plane). Just commenting on whether it happens "too often".
