Of the planes on the list which one is the best for a trainer. learning to land etc?

P40Es are good solid learner rides, good for flaps and E management as they dont have much power.
Spitfires are very easy to fly for landings/takeoff type things.
any of the light bombers (D3A, SBD, Ju87) are all good for learning to fly aces high for the first time.

All the planes are pretty much the same. By that I mean they alll have there strenghts and weaknesses.
Twin engine palnes are the easiest to land and take off with, with the P38 leading the list. No engine touque problems to worry about.
Flying and fighting, the La's, Nik's and spits are probably the tops of that list. Pretty stable in flight, easy to recover in spins and stuff, and cannons that will hit pretty hard. Low ammo load however.
American Iron, P51's P47's, P38's, lots of ammo, but mostly 50 cals, and you need to land more hits in a given area to do some real damage.

MY usual recommendation as a "beginner plane" is the Spitfire Mk9.
Good overall performance, decent ammo load, and most of all a very forgiving stall handling.

Au contrair mon frere...
The N1K packs a whopping 900 rnds of Type99 cannon ammo. While not having the same ballistics of Hispanos, that's a lot of fire power.

Just a note on that page... I haven't updated it since the spitfires were reworked. The V now has significantly less power. I would now recommend the VIII or XVI. Both are MA spits of choice. Slightly different strengths, but both good rides.

CC. I havent flown the Spit8 much.... so my judgement is probably off.... but IMHO, the slow speed close to stall handling of the Spit8 is a lot less stable then the Mk9.
