Wow... didn't expect to see so many F-15s in the boneyard already. Guess I'm getting older than I realized. :(
-
How much are the homes next door going for? :D

That is not really a boneyard saw a special on the discovery channel the military keeps those A/C there for storage becuase it can't really rust in the desert climate they can have some of those planes combat ready in about a month or 2
-
In the image there is a AFB to the left of the "boneyard" and a airport to the sw of it
-
Is that a row of F104s? third row, in the triangle on bottom of pic, just left of the C-123's and below the A-10s.
Or maybe not, might be T-38s I guess
-
Once upon a time I loaded a full load of new chopper parts at Sikorsky Helicopter in Stratford CT and took them to the China Lakes Naval Weapons Center in Cali.
Got escorted out in the desert to a chainlink fenced area of about 5 acres. The area was marked "Weapons Leathality Test Area".
There were some Viet Nam era planes, Korea era and even some WWII stuff there.
I had to wait until a giant forklift was brought out to the area and was pretty much allowed to roam around and have a look see. I was nearly drooling at some of the planes there.
When I asked the hash mark laden gentleman what was going to be done in the area, he confirmed what I allready knew. They were to be strafed, rocketed, bombed, whatever. Sort of a shame.

Those looked alot like F-104's to me, too. They may be parts planes that Germany and Italy didn't want.
-
Holly cow!!:O upper left of pic, i do belive those are B-57s, and RB-57's Canbaras, I thought those would have all been cut up by now
-
that place sucks.

Those are T-38's. The horizontal stabilizor is mounted on the body. F-104's have the T-tail design that covers the exhaust when seen from the top.

that's david motham afb isn't it? anyway it tears me apart every time i see footage of those big beautiful b52's getting chopped up:cry
-
what about all those tomcats just collecting dust there awaiting the scrapper

some of those B-52s are in there for storage kinda like a reserve or they use em for spare parts not all of em will get choped
-
I believe the terms of the SALT treaty have been met. When I was there last November and December there was no chopping going on. There was and is quite a bit of parts retrieval for flying birds.
Yes there are Canbera's there. Quite a few and they are visible from the road as well.
On the inside of the base I was able to see other birds like OA37's (tweety birds) and several Cesna 337's that were used for close air spotting. There are also some A-4's still there.
-
Cessna-337 is the 1st plane mentioned that I think I could actually fly & afford to operate (would prefer a T-41).
I guess their is no possibility of getting one cheap from the junkyard.
Why not?
-
I am surprised to see so many A-10 warthogs in there.
I think I see either F-4s or F-15s in there as well, but I cannot tell. I did se OA-10 Broncos, a crapload of F-111s and A-4s, and some E-2 Hawkeyes. I even see some F-80 (with tip tanks) and F102s or F106s in there too.
-
ok, only see 1 T-33, several A-7 Corsair IIs or F-8s Crusaders. It also looks like there are several Douglas B-66s. And I also think I see several short body C-141As
looked real hard and I dont see any 102s or 106s there.

Not enough F-14s make it there yet? :)

those F-14 parts will end up in some fancy resturant or a Wing Stop resturant and those B-52 could probaly be used in movies

In the bottom left corner of the base, just to the right of the C-141's and left of the C-135's is a gaggle of F-106's.
-
Anybody else find the B-58 Hustler and He-111?

I cant find that, I do see what looked like 104s just left of some C-123s
theres a row of partially disassembled A10s then then what looks like 104s.
but i still dont see the 106s
I'm going to look more when I get home before I get in trouble at work;)
I scrolled more to the left and saw some other interesting planes, like a few C-133s, i think, also still looking for the B-58 and the HE-111. I think I saw the He-111 yesterday but said no way must be something else.
Wierdguy, I found more T-33s more left on the image. too bad I cant copy and paste this image and pull them out, or lable the image.
-
The 106s are on the west side, accross the two lane highway.

The he111 is next to the super guppy and what looks like a U2.

Mmmm OV-10s... Such a cool aircraft. Anybody know if the CAF ever got theirs flying? Was supposed to be @ airshows in '05 in USMC Viet Nam era livery.
-
Turns out what I thought was a HE-111 is a B-18. Is that what you guys are seeing? I would think if they had a HE-111 they would keep it inside the museum.
-
Found the B-26 !
(Hint, all the cool stuff is at the museum)
-
Try to find them.

A lot of the A-10s you see aren't junk yet, they're based at Davis-Monthan (there are three in the runup area), but it does look like there are a good number parked on the dirt with the other junk

Virtually all of the boneyard facility is dirt. There is very little paving out there. There is no need for pavement as the ground is rather hard and rain is not common. Dirt or pavement has no bearing on whether the bird is in storage, salvage parts or hold for scrap.

Yeah, I used to live in Tucson
Thats how I know about the tremendous about of warthog activity out of DM.
Those guys flew low, slow & loud over my house in formation ten times a day at least (but htye were never vulched, go figure)...
-
why can't they just give me a freakin tomcat to play in!
I just want the shell. Think of the fuggin Lock-On Simpit I could have. :D :D :D
How could someone chop it up. Poor thing. Mean basterds.
-
The Mothball fleet in Cali is a great shot. Very clear.

Morph,
There are at least 2 salvage yards adjoining DM that will happily sell you a partial fuselage. They may or may not have an F14 (they ARE rather large to fit in a room ya know) but there are LOTS of other parts out there you can buy. All it takes is $ and a truck / trailer to haul it out on. Wathout for rattlesnakes, black widows and tarantulas though. ;)

Look at the bright side Morph, they all dont get chopped up. Some of those F-14s will probably be turned in to drones and used for target practice by F-22's and F-18s :t :lol
-
Mmmmm...so many Warthogs. :D
I noticed OJ Simpson was on the golf course--must be lookin' for the real killer there, now.
I like this sand trap:

Ton of F-111s there.
-
I remember in 90 everytime we drove out to the base hospital they had a row of f-106s along the fence perimeter.
