Add 30% to all the prices, and on top of that a 25% sales tax (if you're an American).
Would you have it easy getting around on $350 a month? This must cover food, clothing, other consumer items, AH (that's a MUST), rent, books needed for studies, computer upgrades etc etc.
I'm finding it hard. I'm in whining mode right now because I've just realised I have to spend all I get on books next month - meaning I have touse student loan money to pay rent and food, and even then it'll be a tough month.
MORE MONEY TO STUDENTS! KILL ALL FREELOADERS!
-
Believe me, I know what hard times cash-wise, and paying for ones own school is all about. It will pay off in the long run, and it will develope your character for the positive, you'll appreciate everything you earn in the future for sure.
-
Its all because of poor people...They are the root of all evil and the real reason that the middle class is unhappy...
EAT THE POOR !
-
Relax Santa, it gets easier. Firstly ya gotta remember that those student loans your getting are unsecured......and ya dont have to pay em back until you're earning the national average wage (and since I'm self employed I earn whatever I say as far as the tax man is concerned......so I think of my student loans as grants ;)).

that's cutting it close StSanta. Like Rip said, stick it out and it'll pay itself back 100 fold.
the good side is you are still able to entertain yourself i.e AH.
Don't expect to be able to spend almost 10% of your monthly gross on computer games after you find the lucky mrs StSanta :)
-
Nope.
But I lived on far less when I was a college student... and now I don't have to! ;)
-
You are getting a gift of $350/month and you are still whining?
Jeez, beggars are choosy these days.
-
mietla: no, I ain't getting no fediddleing gift.
Both my mother and father are highly educated - one a psychologist and the other a medical doc. Had my father lived in the US, he'd have brought home three to four times what he earns here.
My parents fall in under a tax bracket that is severly taxed - the last 5k or so he earns (DKK) he gets virtually *nothing* for. My mother falls into a bracket a bit lower than that, but basically the same pattern.
They may earn on paper twice as much as a pair of carpenters, but they get out only 10% more - and the opportunity to work "black" isn't as prevalent. Also, they have long and demanding educations behidn them.
Had they NOT had to pay these insane taxes, they'd be able to support me, their son, with a *hell* of a lot more than $350 a month.
I'm getting back (and through me, so are they) a *fraction* of what they've PAID. As Toad pointed out, "free" university ain't free.
Before you call me a leech, check the facts. The government here has made sure it's very hard for people with good wages to actually get anything out of it they can put aside to their kids and then proceed to give back to students an amount that's only half the existence minimum. People on welfare have twice the amount of money I do.
I feel I have a right to be pissed about it - for some reason the govt consider students non humans - i.e the normal rules of existence minimum amounts etc do not apply.
I take offense at being called a leech - I take some very serious steps to avoid being a liability to *anyone* - be it financially to a government or emotionally through a relationship. Have just added a new entry under "m" in my kill-9 reminder file.

Mu-AH-ha-ha-HA-HA-HAHA!
FEEL the POWER of the DARK SIDE, SANTA!
Your transformation is almost COMPLETE, young Jedi.
(BTW, back when I was in school living on less, gasoline was 24 cents a gallon. :) )
-
"you want this?... Good... take it... strike me down.... I can see your hate to rise.... :)
The fact that your parents get robbed does not give you the right to their money (via the government).
I did not call you a leach, but you should be more grateful for the gift you are getting. You did nothing to deserve it, so a little thank you would be in order.

Looks like KD MAC & CHEESE is going to be your staple food source. And you can even save more if you buy the generic Mac and Cheese.
I guess we will have to call ya StPasta now :p
Best of luck to you in school

Dunno bout the rest of the world but in Britain the staple student diet is beans on toast. beans = 7p a can, bread = 4p a loaf. That'll feed ya for a week but leave a window open at night. ;)

Pasta, pasta, pasta and cornflakes :=)
I dunno how many different pasta recipes I know by heart :)
-
Recipes? We dont need no stinking recipes.
Pasta and whatever you can find is good enough.
NOTE: Spagetti and custard is not a good idea.

Santa - is that money given to you in the form of a loan?
As for food, I was into competitive rowing so all I ate was pasta. :)
Fortunately I missed paying tuition fees by one year, so I have £4000 less debt than my brother will have if he stays there for an equivalent time.
Still, it will take me a few years to clear those student loans. And my parents probably gave me an equal amount over the years.

Save the POOR don't eat them!!!
It is said the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Therefore, the rich are getting richer off the poor!! Now that we know where all the money is, I say TAX THE POOR!!!!! TAX THE POOR!!!

Hey Swoop, say you're welcome to all the nice taxpayers who paid for your college education.
Nice.
Not.
Its not UNsecured, its GOVERNMENT secured, which means part of the taxes that stsanta's parents are paying paid for YOUR education. Why not send stsanta a check?
BB <-- lurker

LOL Swoop !

BB,
Bollocks. The British government decided to scrap student grants, thousands of students all over Britain protested saying education should open to all and not just those who can afford it but the gov took no bloody notice whatsoever. Well shreck em I say.
