Title: Question for Track IR users
Post by: Morpheus on March 16, 2006, 11:47:45 AM
If you record a film in AH while using track IR and then play the film in the film viewer, are the views the same as they were when using track IR?

Film viewer has the option to lock view to the recorded views.

Otherwise you also have the options for internal, external, pan, etc.

If you check "recorded views" - yes.

Track IR basically just sets F8 mode (pan) and then presses the numpad keys to scroll around. Only it does it with head motion.

So if you check recorded views, those "keypresses" are still there. It still says "move left, move left, move left, stop, stop, move up, move up" etc etc...

EDIT: Also, as Schatzi said I've also seen films that used it but I don't have it, so it works.

I have trackir, and it does not record movement in AHViewer.
:(

Maybe I need to set my VM from snap to pan?  Works great in game, but no views are recorded in filmviewer.

Edit:
You plan on buying the trackIR soon morpheus?

that's what I thought. Thanks to the people who actually have track IR for answering my question. :aok

Yes kermit, its on order (again) today. Track Ir 4. 2nd day air. Playing lock-on with the Bullcrap view system they have is just too anoying. That's mainly why i got it. But it will be fun in AH as well.

I guess ill never understand those crazy machines and their 0s and 1s...... just as long as they work when i hit the power button.....

Sorry, wasnt misleading you intentionally Morph. I really thought it was trackIR related.

I have a film that I saved that some one posted a long time ago - can't remember who the pilot was, but he's in a P-40 and the music is the old song "Hush" (Golden Earings?).  ANyway. it's prettyobvious that he's using Track IR from the way the head moves around the cockpit.  So, yes, there is a way that the Track IR views make it into films.  Anybody else have a link to that film that can post it?

I think that film you're speaking of was made with FRAPS and not with the AH film viewer.

ack-ack

Yup, its octavious in a P40 and it was recorded while in game with fraps. Its on naturalpoints website.

If that is the case, and the film viewer doesnt remember the trackIR inputs then that sucks. One could make some pretty nice films with out the Mr RoBoto head views.

Imagine the possibilities for the films (TV commercials) with those views!  If it's not a priority, I can't imagine why.

Been asking why the film viewer isn't a priority for a long time now Yippee.

AH user made films.
Can you say Free advertising?

Anyways, shatzi... I simply asked for TrackIR users alone because people who dont have it and use it think it works, when as we see now, it really doesnt... Which we know, because why? Because the people who have trackIR say so.  Thanks anyways. :aok

AH film records the head movements for each key/hatswitch pressed.  TrackIR does not use any keys, so it records default straightforward views :(.  Use Fraps :)

I'll confirm everything said above (as a TrackIR user).

BTW, if you do not yet have a TrackIR and Vector expansion, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!?!  It's the best damn thing to happen to sims (AH especially) since the invention of the hat switch (which becomes obsolete - or at least available for other functions).
