Title: Given that WW2ol is a buggy pc of crap, let's talk about the fun parts, and tips
Post by: Gadfly on August 03, 2001, 01:53:00 PM
Because it can be fun, and I think we can all agree that there are problems, so no need to hash over them, again and again
Here are some things to do to make it work better:

1st, make sure that when you are setting your video options that they are, in fact, beng saved to the right place(and that you have the newest drivers).

Note that this fix assumes you are installed in the default dir. Any OTHER install should simply reflect the appropriate path changes

1) Go to "Start" / “Programs” / “Strategy First” / “World War Two Online” / “Settings”
2) Right click, and select “Properties”
3) Note that the "start in" field is empty
4) Simply copy the path from the target field into this field like so: C:\Playnet\CRS\WW2OL
5) Now “Settings” will save your .cfg file to the correct dir.

Second, if you have a geoforce card, run it at 1024x768x32bit(at least), it seems that anything less actually COSTS you FPS(I prefer 800x600, but picked up 10fps by doing this alone).

Third, now that your settings will actually be saved, adjust them till you are happy.  Most of the boxes in mine are turned off, except for shadows and multi-texturing.

Fourth, if you drive a tank or use the AT guns, do this:

Add these two lines at the end of your tank/AT kgm file, which you can open with wordpad..
asxturretelevate=(a)dummystring,dummystring,dummystring,i(1000^0),k(-1000^0),up(220^0),down(-220^0);
asxturrettraverse=(a)dummystring,dummystring,dummystring,j(-1000^0),l(1000^0),left(-110^0),right(110^0);

Now you will be able to use your j,k,l and i for fast turret movement, joystick for medium speed turret movement, and your arrow keys for very fine tunin, good luck.

Fifth, If you have the time, gather a group of forces, tune to a tactical channel*, and run your own independant operation.  This works well if you are FPS-limited, as you have some control over how many friendlies are around you.

* To tune the radio(I would like to know what genius did this programming), hit the message button. This opens up a little bar on the left, just above the channel indicator.  In that little window, type your channel number.  Then, click on the icon to the right of that(the one with the blue background).  That channel will now be set, and you click on the xmit/recv to use the channel.  If you are on a tac channel, be sure and do not transmit on the origin channel.

Those are some basic tips, here are some for play:

Use the cover!  It is much more effective than you may think.  Also use the terrain; you can get very close to almost every city, in open fields, using the terrain to mask you.

If you are an infantry man, here is how to autorun and give your finger a break:

Hold down the "W" key, then hit enter to open the radio bar(take your finger off the w key).  Hit enter again, and you will move until you hit the w key again.  The "C" key speeds you up, but I don't know which one slows you down.

Also for infantry, crawl!  V to drop to knee, v again to crawl.  F once to goto knee, twice to stand back up.

In a tank, to lock the brake, throttle back to zero, then pull back on stick and switch to gunner position.   This way you can park hull down on hills.

If you have a question, I will try and answer it, so long as it is not system related.

I don't think we would have to do this HERE if the Playnet forums were not such a piece of crap.  Every kid has a 200K sig file.

My tip:  Aircraft default to the "normal" RPM setting.  Use the "'"(single quote) key to crank it up to maximum.  The ";" key lowers it.  Most punters are flying around on the normal RPM setting which is why it is sooooo easy to get kills right now.  :)

To me, you can't seperate the community from the game. The fact that it's so bad over there that you need to post this stuff here says a lot about what kind of experience WWIIOnline would be for me if in fact it *wasn't* a bug-ridden nightmare. The two kind of go hand in hand, as you having to post here demonstrates.

So from my perpective, by trying to highlight WWII's good points you are really pointing out a *major* flaw (a show stopper for me, actually).

I am not selling or trying to convice anyone anything, jeez ya'll are thick.  If you don't like/care, don't post, period!

I am sure there are people here who do not want to sift through the crap on their board, but still want to play.  That is what this thread is for, I have one just like it on AGW, and the only difference is that the ones not interested do not feel the need to try and crap on someone's fun over there.

Clear enough?

Gadfly, just be glad you get *some* kind of response, otherwise your WW2online thread about the fun things in WW2Online might not get one post!  :)

Actually, its a fine game, buggy, but fine game..and it will mature.

I own a Melco EMC 10/4 T and seem to have problems with the trimmers on Head # 1. Isacord threads seam to go threw #10 sharp needles but i'm having a problem with 80 ballpoints. Should i switch threads? Or change my equipment to Bauraden? I've seen them run at the shows and was equally impressed with them.

Sorry but Our trade board is having problems so we decided to move our threads here, If you don't like it DON'T read it.!

You know something, guys, I read a lot of boards, various types, including trade boards, games and sports, and you guys are almost the worst.

The only thing that seperates this particular board and the WWIIONLINE one is the sheer volume of posts.

Not everyone, but then, there are plenty of good guys posting real info there, too, but it rolls off the boards because of drivel like the NUTTZ last post.

You guys that like to do nothing hack on everything, are just wrong.  That is how children act, and I like to assume that either you are old enough to know better, or Daddy at least trusts you enough to allow you to use the Internet as you would a public place.

It's cuz you actually CARE so much Gladflea.

Defending that code joke disaster paints a huge target on you. It's like someone defending Battlecruiser 2000, or whatever that abortion was.

Someone that is so quick to comment about the size of my "ass" obviously knows the rules, or might indeed not at all.

Well, let's see, that was a joke thread, we were making funnies.  If it bothers you though, I'll swear that you have NO ass.

You ladies keep painting me with the cheerleader outfit, but you are wrong.  I think it is a buggy piece of crap(Hey!  look at the title), but I am willing to put up with it, because of the fun I have, bugs or no.  I don't want any of you dirtbags to play, OK?  Really I don't.  The ones that use their own mind to determine if the game is workable for them are the ones that should reply.

This is at least the 5th or 6th time I have stated this, but again, it is much more fun (for children), to not bother to actually read what is posted, just to spit out the first thing that you can write down.

That is ironic, skernsk - you barge in uninvited into the topic and compare it's author with Jehova's. 5 stars for hypocricy!

Or do you have a mental condition that makes you compulsively read anything posted even if you have no interest in the topic and nothing to contribute?
Then I have a good news for you - Prozak is going generic soon.

P.S. While I am at it - WW2OL is a great concept but not ready yet. My tip would be to wait for a few months.

At least you can try to go directly in the hell or sneak around and try shoot the enemy before they find you and shoot you instead  ;)

Gladfly, It was to poke fun (sarcasticly)

I Know this BBS thread is open topic, But IMO ( and My opinion only) this board is HTC's board Given to us by HTC to choose whatever topic we want to discuss. Your quite  welcome to discuss WW2online AS WELL as me talking about my work machinery. BUT, on the other hand I ( and i repeat MY opinion) it's in poor taste to repeatingly talk about a "competitors" game ( although many don't think they are competitors, And thats another topic). Another
thing that REALLY ticks me off is while flying in the MA on CHannel 1 I hear ( and Constantly by an unnamed person) " hey lets all log off and meet in WW2online and show them newbies a thing or 2"  REally poor taste if ya asked me. I also understand MANY have accounts here and there, But reverse the rolls go into ww2online and anounce for everyone with an AH account to log out and go there. I just find it in poor taste , you want to do that, do it privately to the people you KNOW play the game. I just think it's a real smack in the face to HTC and the play public, and if anyone reads any of my post you'll know I'm far from an HTC cheerleader. As far as you posted here cause the CR's BBs blows chunks, well I have to agree there. So If you want to post about WW2online here ya better have some thick skin, I bet most AH players tried it, some play it , some think it sucks, some will never try it, but the line needs to be drawn somewhere or the FDB will move their cyber sex chats off AOL and into here :)

BTW i was in WW2online's Beta and ALL my discussions about WW2online were in their BBS, and I don't post about AH in there.

Or Target Korea.

OH, and I don't have a Kiosh, i have 2 stores :)

Now back to the threads, It wasn't the tensioners ( but an excellent first guess) It was my first guess also, Seams it was a bad spool of Isacord thread, when switching the cone to another head the problem was transfered the that head.   Oooooops sarcastic mode off now :)

Yo nuttz, bad thread was too obvious, I didn't want to try that one.

I get your point and appreciate it very well.  There is no way in hell I would post anything about another game on the main board, much less in game.

But, as you say, there are people here who do play both, and I do not see anything wrong with discussing this as opposed to politics on the OT board.  That is what it is for.

If, on the other hand, I am wrong, and HTC would prefer that I not post here, I would have no problem with that at all.  Hell, I don't even mind being harrassed, if the harrassers would take the time to read the previous posts and make sense or at least a joke.
