It seems to have one of the shortest takeoffs. With wep and flaps its like 3 feet :lol
Soooo, how come it is/was not available on CVs? Not that I like the plane and I would ever use it from a CV, but someone else maybe would :D

because it was made in taiwan and taiwan dont have cv's stupid.

It wasn't an IJN plane.
P-38 with with a 1 or 2 notches of flaps also has a short take off. Nice when taking off fully loaded from one of those bases with a mountain at the end of the runway.

light on fuel and full flaps the old 38G leaps up quick in the midst of the vulchers over a field. I imagine it would do the same off a carrier deck.

Ki84 is slow, and if its a turn fight a decent p38 stick can kick a decent ki84 stick if he uses the p38s high speed flaps.

Ki84 has dead even speed with the P-38L on the deck with WEP, how is that slow?
The problem is very few people know how to get the most out of the Ki84, so the vast majority of them are poorly flown.

The key to beating a Ki-84 in a P-38L is to keep the fight fast. The Ki-84 can't match the high speed turning ability of the P-38. Once the fight slows down to 150mph IAS where the Ki-84 can use its flaps, it can give the P-38 a run for its money in a slow/stall speed fight.

If they modeled the Ki84 correctly, the enigines would burn out at high RPMs.
More IJN pilots died of engine failure, than were shot down.

Frank or Ki84 Hayate was a Army plane designed to kill high bombers (B 29s)
and to defend Jpn metropolitan mother land.
It had nothing to do with navy and CVs.

Well it was an army plane so I doubt all that many navy pilots died from engine fires in it ;)
Ki84 pwns the P38 all day long although the P38 is one of the planes that can fight it best. Spit 16 probarly comes closer but the spit 16 is far easier to fly then both the 84 and 38 so that doesn't count :p
Like AKAK said, the key is to keep the fight fast. Problem is that keeping a fight fast often results in a boring fight (since 99.999% of the AH people can't aim unless they get to cherry pick a 100mph target).
And like Grits said, there are very few people who can actually use the Ki84 to its fullest.

Just dusted a Ki84 on the deck yesterday in a P47N. Choice of combat was mine. Jug turns very well slow, and can easily accelerate away if need be.

As far as the 38 dweebs go :D All 38s can do is BnZ a Ki when they have 10K on it. Co-e you are just stats, muahahahahaha
