2am last Monday Morning I was woken by the worst chest pains. Pain from the left soulder up the left side of the neck. Had difficulty breathing and someone had parked an Elephant on my chest.
Thought at first indigestion, which after trying to walk to the bathroom with this Elephant on the chest and gasping for air prove to be not quite my problem...I guess gasping for breath woke the wifey up cuz next thing I know she's trying to pick me up off the floor and in the background I hear wife ack...fade to black.....next thing I know my Daughter is slapping me in the face calling my name...enter violent vomiting... felt like now I'm drowning.... again fading out.
Now I'm on a gurner in an abulance off to a hospital....next the hallways and bingo Cardiac Intensive Care Unit....pretty nurses, lips move but only buzzing sounds...shots in belly, IV..beeping machines and oxygen...they still had to bring the damm Elephant...N00Bs.
1 1/2 days in CICU and then Moved to a Cardiac Recovery room and then more test and sonic grams xrays and pnomia sets in.... anti biotics, more belly shot to thin the blood... finally the Hospital Bad Food Torture...
But I was always surrounded by pretty Nurses...Angels.
Just got home about an hour ans ahlf ago.... left the Dame Elephant at the hospital..... Got a ewhole list of Do's and DONT Do's... and meds.
Fees good to be home.

Yeah and I was looking forward to celebrating the 1st March 20th Day.
Might have to pass on the steak and stick with the other.

Ahhh diabetic, that's no good either. Blood thinners, insulin, you're running out of illnesses to contract. That fever doesn't help anything either. You should have blasted that elephant and sold him though, I hear ivory is quite the hot ticket item these days.

Was one Hell of a wake up call.
Poor Wifey at the time didn't know why all the people from different Families in the Cardiac ICU waiting room were all crying.
My oldest Daughter in Houston, who is attending Baylor, told her that many in a Cardiac ICU don't see the Sun rise again in a Day or two.
Yeppers listening to the Dr's. Only choice I have. I'm 48 and only halfway through Life.
Mac.

No corned beef hash for you Mac? What a shame. Maybe you can still have some green eggs without the ham.
And remember, it's easier to shoot a kid then yell at them, and it doesn't raise your blood pressure as much!

The only thing I miss about it all are the Nurses and Nurses Aides....I hit the jackpot on Beautiful women.... actually at first, in Cardiac ICU when I came too I thought I had died..Nurse were Angels so kind and soft hearted and it seemed I was the most important thing to them... especially when they hit me up with Morphine...
But it does feel GREAT to be Home and Alive. Thanks xrtronto <<>>.

Found the thread after talking to you in the MA yesterday.
Glad you are doing better bud.
I had a little episode like this a few years ago. I can relate to the weakness you are talking about.
Started having chest pains while helping my son-in-law work on his car. (Actualy I was the official pointer) In a few minutes I started getting the heaviness in the chest and shortness of breath. Went to the family Dr. because he was just 6 miles up the road. The SOB hijacked me by giving my wife some nitro tabs and telling her to drive me to a heart specialist he had standing by. The saw bones was across from the hospital. He told my wife he would have them waiting for me at the ER entrance and that he would be there in less than 30 minutes. Up I went to the heart ward. They started pumping blood thinner in me and doing the every hour or so blood test for the lab to check enzymes, etc. The bastige didn`t show up that evening and the next morning I kept waiting to hear something from someone, anyone. After not recieving nothing that morning, even to drink such as coffee, my daughter went to the nurse`s station on that floor and asked what was going on. She came back and told me that when she asked what was up, the nurses looked at each other , grabbed their clipboards and started acting sort of funny. Come to find out, after the shift change, they were not aware I was even there.
First nurse that walked down the hall I yelled at. What I called her was not "sweetheart". I told her to take the damn crap out of my arm. She said she couldn`t do that. I showed her I could. Walked out of that place. Figured I could die at home easier than I could that hell hole. Took about a month to get my strength back to anywhere near notmal.
Great hospital. I highly recommend it. :D

it's the weakness that is difficult to deal with...no energy what so ever. It takes a bit just to type and all. Just called my Manager, the Wicked Biitch of the West, to tell her I was discharged from the Hospital yesterday late afternoon and I might be in Monday if I have enough energy to drive.
The Blood thinners they hit me with were injected into my belly..Hate those.. my whole right side from the 1st one has left me Black and Blue a foot long and 8 inches wide.. one on my left side is trying to catch up with the right behind my back... like a frikken bad Tribal Ring gone wrong.
Sorry to hear you had a bad expierience, but glad yer okay also Jackal1.
<<>> Bro. Cya up in a few.

Dear Mac,
Just read this thread, sorry to hear about what happened.
Have the Doctors figured out what it was, or is it still kind of "Shrug and Speculate?" I do hope it will be ultimately used by God for your good, both physical and spiritual - as one of my favorite authors, Thomas Watson, wrote regarding affliction: When God lays men upon their backs, then they look up to heaven.
Feel free to write or call if you need to. You'll be in my prayers this weekend.

Andy,
I've been thru alotta times in life where I've been scared to death...this one wins the Blue Ribbon. Been praying alot, mostly thanking the BIG GUY for giving me a second chance. Heart is good, no signs of damage. Big prob was Stress, Blood Sugar level dropped too low and BP dropped... I was told it was taxing my heart and if my wife had waited a lil longer then they'd be picking out my last suit and shoes.
I've got alot of things ahead of me right now. A total life change, I agree. Right now I'm working on getting my energy back, I'm so weak right now, never been like this. Got friends that are near helping me, directing me. Showing me a new way to live... no expierience life. I'm no longer "Bullet Proof". I really thought this was it. My Guardian Angels will probably kick my asss before the Pearly Gates and I don't blame them, they've worked overtime on me.
It's time to make a change.
Thanks Andy... I've had my puter reformatted so many times I've lost your email addy and number. Would love to have both again. Do you still have my email addy? fwrede@cox.net. Could use a few words from ya.
mac
BTW GOD does have a sense of Humor...
I normally fly listening to CD's... especially Ozzy.
Got home late afternoon and fired up Aces High... got to flying and the CD kicked in... Ozzy's "See You on the Other Side" sent chills thru me... Guess he needed a laff to see what my next move was to be. Spooky.

Mac I want to tell you about an article I read just this week. It was about a drug called "Crestor". Crestor is an anti-cholestoral drug. Actually, I was prescribed it's sister drug "lipitor" only a year ago by my physician and have had wonderful success.
The most encouraging part of this story about Crestor was it has shown an ability to repair some damage to the heart (if any damage is present). I was just finishing up dinner and it occurred to me I should pass this info on to you.
As I said, the article on Crestor appeared in one of the papers I read earlier this week and you may want to ask your doctor about it? If your doctor doesn't know about this, perhaps consider asking your specialist?
Now, if you are wondering what to do with your time, let me tell you that all the old John Wayne movies are out on DVD. All the old Lauren Bacall and Bogie films are out also. I personally recommend 'March of the Penguins' for some excellent entertainment.
...and if not, 'Girls Gone Wild' is always out there!
-
Well let me tell you about my experience with Lipitor....
Im 36, healthy, just a family history of elevated cholesterol. Before they lowered the standards, Id test around 220-230 with the good cholesterol being above 60 (a good thing). I made changes to my diet, exercised more but could never get below 200, which is where they'd prefer to have you these days.
So they put me on the minimal (10mg) dose of Liptor. Awesome results, cholesterol drops to 148-180 range over the next few months.
Over the course of the year, my neck is always tight, my pectoral muscle is sore as is my abdominal. Basically any muscle pain Id had is amlpified. Stretching, massage would help for a while, but it would never go away. Then one day after a trip to the gym, Im really sore and my mind just wanders away. Is it my heart? Why am I so sore? It was annoying to even have the seatbelt over my soulder/pec muscles. So I finally saw the Doc about it and its a known lipitor issue (muscle aches).
Ive been off the drug for over a month now. I see a massage therapist weekly and she knows her stuff. My neck and shoulders are back to normal and slowly my muscles are loosing that "ropey" feel and smoothing out to normal. I've gone from pain, to sore to now discomfort. I'm having more good days than bad.
As Toad's preached here and elsewhere, if you can lower it minus the statins, do so! I've taken up lots of the suggestions he made (fish oil, more fish intake, green tea, vegetables, etc etc...). I test my choelsterol in a month so with any luck, my diet mods will bring the cholesterol more in the normal range and avoid another issue with statins and side effects.
-
xrtoronto and LePaul good advice all...with the exception of "Girls Gone Wild". With all the blood thinners in me and the lack of energy I fear getting an erection. That alone my send me into a coma.
But seriously I've got to make changes with diet, stress, pay more attention to my Diabetis and start an exercise program even if it's just walking around the pond a few times.
I've gotta lotta good friends around me here and near that are helping me adjust to changes. Smoking is the first thing going bye bye...then the booze.
Thanks to you both <<>>

Glad to help...I wish I could exercise more. Every 3 or 4 days I make it to the gym and walk a brisk 3 miles, do a bit of cardio on the other equipment then, if I have any energy left, hit a few of the nautilus-style machines.
I figure some exercise is better than none.

Good choice to drop the smoking habit Mac.
I quit smoking (cold turkey) back in 1990 and have never looked back. The toughest part for me was the first couple of days and then after about two weeks I saw myself as a non-smoker and had no problems maintaining my non-smoking status.
I had to realize that a part of me wanted to smoke and the other part of me recognized smoking as detremental to my health. So there's the conflict. I think the most important thing is to be mentally prepared to quit smoking. Once we have the mindset that we will succeed and are prepared to fight when temptation surfaces then smoking becomes a thing of the past.
I know it sounds simplistic, but it worked for me.
Cheers Mac!
