Interesting considering all the Spit talk and the IX v XVI bit that the new Airfix kit is....wait for it........a combo IXc(they did add the c) or XVI optioned kit.  And the cover is in those 73 Squadron markings no less :)

Nice, it's a shame they couldn't get it right though.

3 color upperwing roundels (2TAF) with a sky band, although it is listed as a mid 45 Italy bird.

ZD-B is listed on the instuctions as a LF IXB. (prob refers to pilots use of IXA for the IX with Merlin 61, IXB for IX with Merlin 66)

Still waiting on a yes/no from Pyro/Skuzzy re the LF IXe with a round tail on the XVI, but on the chance they say yes I started Johnnies JE-J jr.
He didn't fly it much but since HT likes skins weathered (no dirt yet just a little chipping and wear)

Not shown is -
Reworked the air intake under nose to include the butterfly valve paritally open.
Reworked the radiator intake details to be more accurate.

They didn't -

BUT

An LF IXe is a LF XVIe and vice versa, only difference was where the Merlin was made. (IXe Merlin made in UK, XVIe Merlin made in the US)

Merlin 66 produced in the US called Merlin 266, '2' denoted made outside UK.
Merlin 66 produced in the UK called the Merlin 66.

Only reason it was called the Spit XVI was to differentiate between the two motors as they required different tools (US v UK measurement system).

So you can put LF IXe skins on the XVI.
