I was just curious, but does anyone else notice a variance in the handling of aircraft from day to day?
I fly the F4U-1 almost exclusively (occaisonal D-Hog if I want to jabbo), usually with a 50% fuel loadout and drop tank. After four months I would at least say I'm at least passingly familiar with how she flies in the game, and it seemed to me that all day yesterday she was handling like a total dog.
This is also not the first time I've felt a difference. There's times where I've flown every day for a week, and maybe one of those days something just doesn't "feel" right, even though I'm doing nothing different from the night before.
Or am I just insane?

I've seen this from time to time. I thought about it a bit and realized that it wasn't the airplane that was flying like a dog that evening... I was flying like a dog that evening.
There's lots of reasons this can happen. Too little sleep, maybe too much stress from job, or simply a lack of concentration can lead to a poor outing. When I detect that I'm off my peak, I simply log and call it a night.

I've noticed this too, and the only factors I can pin it down to, are control or human, as others have pointed out, and back in the days when I was on dial-up, a lousy connection. The bad connection wouldn't make the aircraft fly any differently of course, but it did change my perception of what was happening, so that I felt I was always reacting too slowly, and it is only natural to blame that on the aircraft.
Trust me, Aces High performs consistently. I have the tools to detect a 0.1% difference in aircraft performance in this game, and I've been doing this for over 17 years, I've never seen anything that can't be blamed on those things.
If you think there is a problem, check your connection, check for spy-ware or background CPU activity, re-calibrate your controls, or go and get some rest, one of those things will work.

Some of it is perceptual, yes. But if you remove your joystick when not playing it's possible for Winblows to get confused when you plug it back in. I've seen it several times where I'll take off and only when I start to manouever do I notice that I'm not getting the response I should.
I've gotten into the habit of going into a field gun first time in the game (while waiting for the roster to load) and just moving the stick through the full range of motion.
When in doubt: blame Microsoft.

No I've at times noticed the same things.
In fact I noticed last night the P51d was handleing a bit sluggish for me.
Often when I notice this happeneing I'll try changing planes. Which as often as not does the trick.
Cant say its the joystick calibration as one plane flies fine and another doesnt handle like I am accustumed to.
Cant say its always me being off as usually when I'm off. Im off in everything.
Hey maybe the strat is finally working and we're getting some poor mainenance or bad aviation fuel & Oil?;)

I'v noticed that at times everything seem sluggish, less responsive or just plain wrong like spinning spits for example. I'll check me Desk Top calibration in control panel. If off I'll calibrate then I'll check AH but WILL calibrate no matter what. If thats not it I'll run spy sweeper. One of these three sorts it for me.
If I'm in a bomber in the site and I see little freezes or Hickups I'll run spy sweeper straight away. Hate missing me buildings because some cheeky nosey barstool want info of where I'm at on the web...TOSSERS:furious

Well, glad to know I'm not ENTIRELY crazy, then.
After hearing the suggestions I'm more inclined to side with Widewing. Like I said, I might fly a week and only have one day in the middle that things are sluggish and then go right back to normal so I wouldn't suspect a calibration, PC performance, spyware, etc to be likely.
Either that or maybe HTC DID sneak in some randomness without telling anybody. :D
