Hegemon's post about the teenager attempting to build a breeder reactor reminded me of another great article. It's from the Air & Space mag in 1990.

..a locomotive-size missile that would travel at near-treetop level at three times the speed of sound, tossing out hydrogen bombs as it roared overhead. Pluto's designers calculated that its shock wave alone might kill people on the ground.

remembered reading about this many many years ago, good article. I think it was in popular science or mechanics not sure though.

The engine itself supposedly would kill people with radiation as well as shockwaves. One of the major reasons it was never realized, if I remember correctly.
