Town Rules Pot Paintings on House Not Illegal
WINSTED, Conn. (March 16) - Having marijuana in your house is illegal, but having marijuana images on your house is not, according to town officials.
Five months after Christopher Seekins was arrested and charged with cultivating marijuana in his home, neighbors have complained about the giant marijuana leaves he has spray-painted on the outside of his home on High Street.
"There's no reason anybody should have a problem with it," Seekins said Wednesday.
Town officials said the marijuana paintings apparently do not conflict with local laws.
"There's nothing in the property maintenance code that deals with writing on your house," Joe Beadle, chief code enforcement officer, said.
Seekins says the large leaves are in support of the cause of the legalization of marijuana. He believes firmly in the usefulness of hemp, the coarse fiber of the cannabis plant, from textiles to paper products.
"People have the wrong impression about it," Seekins said.
In October, police said they found 100 plants inside Seekins' house, along with grow lights, fertilizers and portable heaters.
Police charged Seekins, 26, with cultivating marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Free on $10,000 bond, his court case is pending

Did he paint the leaves on his house before or after the arrest?

No idea. The article doesnt say
I would assume afterwards

It's true, some of the first American flags were made with hemp.
1. One acre of hemp can produce as much usable fiber as 4 acres of trees or two acres of cotton.
2. Hemp paper is longer lasting than wood pulp, stronger, acid-free, and chlorine free. (Chlorine is estimated to cause up to 10% of all Cancers.) Hemp paper can be recycled 7 times, wood pulp 4 times. Hemp fabric requires fewer chemicals than cotton and is stronger and longer lasting.
3. 5-10,000 Cancer related deaths are caused yearly from pesticide use. Cotton uses as much as 40% of all agricultural pesticides. Hemp uses no pesticides and crowds out weeds without herbicides.
4. Cotton has a drinking problem...extensive water subsidies. Hemp requires less water than cotton and grows in cooler climates.
5. Hemp should be worth $500 per acre if used for low end products such as particle board. If higher use products can be developed such as specialty paper and fabrics, the value could be even greater.
6. Hemp is an excellent rotation crop: it crowds out weeds and its deeptap roots break up hard pan soils.
7. Hemp particle board may be up to 2 times stronger than wood particleboard and holds nails better.
8. Low-THC fiber hemp varieties developed by the French and others have been available for over 20 years. It is impossible to get high from fiber hemp. Over 600,000 acres of hemp is grown worldwide with no drug misuse problem.
9. In 1941 Henry Ford built a plastic car made of fiber from hemp and wheat straw. Anything made from a hydrocarbon can be made from a carbohydrate. The 21st century should be the era of the carbohydrate (sustainable agricultural products.) Hemp plastic is biodegradable, synthetic plastic is not.
10. Hemp is the world's most versatile fiber. Almost any product that can be made from wood, cotton, or petroleum (including plastics) can be made from hemp. There are more than 25,000 known uses for hemp!
ACHIEVING A SUSTAINABLE PLANET!
* Hemp is among the earth's primary renewable resources: trees cut down to make paper take 50 to 500 years to grow back while hemp can be cultivated in as little as 100 days, and can yield 4 times more paper over a 20 year period.
* Hemp does not require pesticides: while half the pollutants in the U.S. today are sprayed on cotton plants, hemp is naturally mildew resistant, requires no pesticides, and maintains a healthy environment for the surrounding streams, air, flora and fauna.
* Hemp slows ozone depletion: the industrial use of fossil fuels, like petroleum, contributes to global warming by rapidly increasing the amount of CO2 in our atmosphere; however, hemp fuels, derived from the plant itself, maintain the earth's natural O2/CO2 balance.
* Hemp Paper Can Save the Forests! One acre of cannabis hemp, in annual rotation over a twenty year period would produce asmuch pulp for paper as 4.1 acres of trees being cut down over the same twenty year period. And while hemp reaches full growth and can be harvested every year, the trees which are cut down take hundreds of years to return. The process of making paper from hemp uses only 1/5 to 1/7 as much polluting, sulfer-based chemicals and does not require the use of any chlorine bleach.
* Hemp as an Ecological, Renewable Fuel Source. Hemp can also produce 10 times more methanol than corn,. the second best living fuelsource. Hemp as fuel is renewable whereas oil is not.
* Hemp as fuel is environmentally beneficial: It enriches and prevents erosions, it burns clean and sulfur-free while oil's sulfur content causes acid rain.

No wonder our planet is going downhill so fast, there is a definate loss of hemp growth.

The US Constitution was written on Hemp paper.
WWII soldiers used Hemp Ropes.

I haven't touched Marijuana since 1995. Not that I did all of the time either. But, heck, I experimented and it didn't do anything for me.

Only there is a bit of a difference between the kind of hemp you smoke, and the kind you make rope out of
Industrial hemp is cannabis grown specifically for industrial use and thus contains very low levels of cannabinoids (THC). Properly grown hemp has virtually no psychoactive (intoxicating) effects when consumed.

I think the entire shipping industry uses hemp ropes because of strength and durability
-
hmm my experience if the shipping industry they use wire rope ....made of wire and straps made of nylon..as for hemp rope....that might explain why some of em go to sea in the rust buckets i see round here :)hehehehe
-
Im all for the legalisation of Both kinds of Hemp.
At this point in time having either illegal is so pointless its nothing short of idiotic.
And hey. It helped give rise to one of the
GREATEST BILINGUAL SONGS EVAR! (http://aolsearch.aol.com/aol/redir?src=singingfish&requestId=133fc0e16029e3fb&clickedItemRank=3&userQuery=Up+in+Smoke&clickedItemURN=http%3A%2F%2Fhighlife.nl%2Fgraphics%2Fmp3%2FCheech%26Chong-UpInSmoke.mp3)

What drediock said, you can't really get high on "industrial" hemp. The kids around here love to buy hemp necklaces and what not. And for the record i've never touched the marijuana.
-
My post was not accusing you guys of anything. I am well aware of the differences between industrial vs recreational MJ.
But, the reason I mentioned Dow Chemical is that they led the charge against MJ, using it's supposed narocotic aspect to get it made illegal and to ensure a market for their synthetic rope and fibres.

I smoked it; but I didn't inhale;)

I've smoked, ate, inhaled and ingested. The prohibition on hemp and MJ is just plain stupid. GRASS (http://imdb.com/title/tt0214730/) is a great film documenting the fight against MJ in America. I highly recommend watching it before you form your final opinion on the subject.
-
the single damaging factor for cannabis users is when one's mind becomes addicted.
other than that, MJ is totaly harmless, if you dont mind being lazy, smelly and poor.

And Jello Biafra used it's industrial form to rally people to support the legalization of marijuana in general;)

Propaganda, and poor propaganda at that.
While I gave it as well as most othe things up a long time ago.
About all I do now is have a drink now and again. but even thats pretty rare. LOL a 6 pack would last me probably a couple months.
I know a whoooole lot of people that still do smoke pot. The very vast majority are hard working upper middle class and upperclass people. None are lazy, smelly or by any stretch of the imagination, poor.
On the other hand, I know alot of people who who dont do it at all who are are, poor ,lazy and smelly.
Pot, is no worse then beer or wine. I wouldnt even put it in the hard liquor catagory.
And in fact I'd trust much more someone high on pot then someone drunk on booze any day of the week.
Its not even a close competition.

was only a joke dred :)
i've been everything from an occasional smoker to smoking 5-10 joints a day, so i'm not speaking from a viewpoint of ignorance here, just making a joke from an informed possition.

That's a little ironic considering that Dow makes napalm.

From what I've read and seen, both sides of the argument give biased and skewed facts.
Take everything you read with a grain of salt.
-
I have a couple questions for those who imbibe with marijuana for "recreational use".
Do you have kids and smoke around them or in their sight?
When will you provide your kids their first dose?
-
No wonder AH gets kinda creepy at night. :D
