So we can bring our 50,000+ troops home from Okinawa now?
I guess the 30,000+ on the Korean DMZ could come home too. If people were worried, a nice UN "observer corps" could take their place, right? Serve the same purpose as sacrificial lambs to engender further world participation in case of an attack, I think.
Time to bring 'em home.

and where exactly are the figures from N.Korea and China coming from? North Korea and China? And you believe them?? I don't entirely believe our own countries figures let alone two commie countries...

Come on guys, everyone knows that whole world has nothing better to do the consipire how to destroy the solem bastion of democracy - US of A !!!
We should kill them all now before they get any power !!!
Nuke them all !!! McArthur for president !!!
And cut taxes while you're at it !!!! :)

Ah, the paranoia of the Right.

You guys crack me up.
Ok... Lets dismantle the Washington DC police force. We don't need 'em; the citizens there can take care of themselves; hell, they are as well if not better armed than the police; surely they can look after their own houses.
Well?
What keeps the Noth Koreans in North Korea is the bad-assed US of A sittin there on the DMZ. Keep 'em there; and the NK's will play nice. Pull out; and they might decide to use those new toys they got. Stay; and they know if they try to play they get their tulips kicked, and we'll take away those toys for good.
If the NK and the Chinese want us out of their region; just bring us all the bad toys, disarm themselves and allow UN inspection teams to keep 'em honest and we'll glady pull out.
In the meantime; lets continue to patrol the neighboorhood.

It's tough and expensive to be the world's police force.

I don't have any problem with those numbers for the reasons others have posted. However, they do give rise to a question. Assuming they are correct, how can it be said that Clinton's defense spending cuts hurt our national security?

All it takes is 1 nuke to kill 15 million people...it sure doesnt take a GDP equal to the USA's to get nukes...

N Korea is NOT to be taken lightly. They have commited well over 1000+ breachs of the Cease Fire agreement between the N and S korea. They have sent commandos southward and murdered S Korea politicans w/in a Buddiest temple. The have dug numerous tunnels and filled then full of equipment for possiable invasions. They, to this date, still send attempted infiltrations across the DMZ. If you want to know about the N/K's ask the ROKs on patrol on the Z. They avoid U.S. troops but will take pot shots and such at ROK's. The N-Korean government is dangerous and unpredicable. Often thier actions border on stupidy. They have an ENTIRE city the created just over the border to try and show the N/K prosperity...its deserted, lol.
Our defense sending is going to be higher... we have to deal with this thing called Capitalism where companies try to make a profit.
Russia wishes to bring oil to SOuth Korea thus this meeting...China is looking to fill the Soviet void... N/korea...who KNOWS what they really want. Russia had best watch its back though w/those 2...

you forgot one rather important set of statistics in the list - number of wars/border incursions fought and I guess number of years spent fighting.
Those'd be pretty much the really important figures when it comes to who's the most dangerous threat, I reckon. :D

The issue is not US of A but South Korea and Taiwan. Both China and North Korea are quite explicit in their views and plans about those two countries.
Those two countries are much more important to the world democracy and economy then, say, Poland and look how much trouble eveybody went into because of that one...
