May have been a documentry. Its about the guy who designed, built and worked himself to death over the spitfire. Some guy was asking me if I had ever seen it or could find out who put it out.Apparently this was the guy they went to when Britian couldnt keep up with the 109's.It might be a History channel show,I have no idea.Anyone seen this one or know where I can find it?

Reginald Joseph Mitchell is his name. Try searching with that maybe.

You may be thinking of the film "Spitfire" starring David Niven as Supermarine's chief test pilot. Its a great dramatic film of the Spitfire and Reginald Mitchell. I believe it may have been done during the war, or shortly thereafter.
Its available on VHS, probably on DVD now, too. Well worth picking up and watching some time when you can see it start to finish without interruption. Its not a documentary, but pretty close to it.

I knew I could count on the community. Thanks guys.Apparently the guy who asked me borrowed it from his dad and screwed it up.he knew I was into ww2 aircraft and asked if I could find it.:aok

could be The Lion Has Wings also

Im not sure The lion has wings fits the mold.In the movie, documentery, whatever it is,the guy literaly workes himself to death on the project.Ring any bells?Ive found 2 in search,Spitfire and The first of the few.In the FOTF he is portrayed as working himself to death, which wasnt the case.Has anyone seen that one?

I thought it was a horrible british propaganda film. Only second to, coincidently "The Lion has Wings".
Ah yes "The Lion has Wings", where they demostrate that no Hun bombers could drop on London. Outstanding.

Some of us happen to like British WW2 propaganda films! In fact, most war films made then had a patriotic beat to them. I mean, it was 1942 after all.

I could see people liking "The First of the Few", but not "The Lion has Wings".
Heck, even the British at the time thought it was over the top.
