I heard that wrong intelligence was also gathered by Saddam via the Russian spy net work.

Sounds alot like 'Operation Fortitude' to me, "Every truth should be surrounded by a body-guard of lies". You need to give the bad guys good intelligence once in a while or they'll never believe the deceptions you lay at their feet.

Unless it was earth shattering intelligence, I'd chalk this up to normal operating procedure.
