Title: Do people actually think like this?
Post by: Urchin on March 25, 2006, 01:17:48 PM
Pulled this off the Christian Afghan's Wiki site, but it doesn't really pertain to him, so I made a different post.

"Afghan Economy Minister Amin Farhang said that the government in Kabul cannot stop donor countries from withholding aid or technical support, but consequences of such withdrawals would be worse for Western countries than Afghanistan. Farhang stated: "I think that politicians in the West, including in Germany, reacted very emotionally. It shouldn't be like that. There's a lack of information. And besides, while the situation hasn't been resolved and the final decision hasn't been made yet, they can't threaten to withdraw security forces or foreign aid. That amounts to blackmail."

Is this guy retarded?  We give them money, and troops to prop up their stupid little government, but withdrawing our support when they do something we don't like is blackmail?

I guess all this time I've had an incomplete understanding of what blackmail really was.  I'm glad this guy could educate me...

Can we topple this Afghan government and put in new one?

Ya know, one that's a constitutional republic first, and a democracy second.

Sure thing. Our nation building record is stellar.

You forgot to mention the fact that the whole issue is over killing someone for switching religions.

After Dec 2014, I'll be able to say what I really think we should do to these people who believe with all their heart and soul that the world should accept, as an "internal matter", the murder of a man for NO reason other than he changed religions.  Until then, I think I'll point out that the last well known leader who subscribed to that sort of universal philosophy of absolute religious hatred and actually applied it, was Hitler.  I can think of no other comparison than Hitler, that approaches the murderous religious fanaticism of those calling for the death of that one man in Afghanistan, for the "crime" of converting from Islam to Christianity.

But the world is too terrified of Islam, too terrified that any who oppose murder in the name of Islam will also be murdered in the name of Islam, to make any real stand.  Come to think about it, that's pretty much how Hitler got away with his murders too, Europeans sitting around in fear.  The US tried to do something this time though, and has been nearly universally villified in Europe.  How entrenched in Europe will the Islamic councils have to get before Europe recognizes the danger of letting this go on?

The US tried to do something, and got slapped down by the world.  I don't think we have the strength to try again, and I don't think we'll do a damn thing in this case because we'll get crapped on no matter what we do or don't do.

We prop up thier stupid little government because we overthrew the previous one, and created this government in the hopes that it would be less of a threat to our countries.

Pulling out and/or cutting off aid would be counter productive to that end.  We can better influence this government by having our troops there to provide security and aid to help provide stability.

By the same token we can't let the new government promote the ****ed up ideologies of the old one, so hell the hell do we effect that?  Or can we?
