Title: How far Aces High has come
Post by: streakeagle on March 26, 2006, 01:14:08 PM
I missed out on the original beta. The first version I found and downloaded via dialup was 1.03. I was hooked from the start. The 3d cockpits were ugly compared to the 2d Warbirds pits, but every other aspect was so much better than Warbirds, especially the view system made possible by the 3d pits. I haven't had a subscription in a while since I don't have the time to play much online, but I keep on downloading the latest versions to see where the game is going. I am thoroughly impressed with the latest releases. The current B-17G is such a huge improvement over the original. Hopefully, my work schedule will ease up in a few months and I will be able to make time to subscribe for awhile to fully enjoy the state-of-the-art AH, or if it is out, Combat Tour or whatever its current name is.

Aces High is a posterboy for the whole "its the journey, not the destination" mindset.

Its been a journey, a good one with lots of twists & turns.

I remember beta, staying up all night shooting planes down with tanks when 1.02 came out. Horde's of Chawgs, bishops shutting down the front lines with bombers.

Its been one change after the next, and overall thats a good thing.

No its not the same as it was, and it never will be either.
But you know what, its more challenging.
Its more ALIVE!

So its not always easy to catch up & keep up with the changes.

Yes there are times I wish I could go back to those simplier easier days.

But this is what we have, and frankly, this looks pretty darn good to me most days. Even if I can't hit the boadside of a barn or land a kill some days.

Such is life, such is the journey. You take what you find along the road and
do the best you can with it. And if you greet the people you meet along the way with a smile. Well you just might find this isn't such a bad journey at all.
