I have never played this game yet, but have always been into BF series, AA etc.
How does this game rate, in terms of gameplay, and graphics?
-
Why dont you just download it and check it out?
The download and first two weeks online are FREE!
One word of warning though....... AH2 is more addictive then crack. You might not want to leave after your 2-week trial ;).
If you need help getting setup: http://www.netaces.org, the HTC helpfile and the training arena are a great place to start.
Good luck and Welcome :).

Yes it's a fun game and adictive with varied activities to suit almost everyone from the fighterjock to buffdrivers out there.
Try it off-line first to get settled, I know most don't bother but read the downloadable manual, saves all of those stupid comments people give to questions they have heard before. Once you start your two week trial visit the Training arena and hook up with one of the excellent trainers available this will make your first visit to the Main arena more bearable. Don't expect instant stardom, even though this is a "game" there is a steep learning curve.
I look forward to seeing you up sometime soon in the Main arena.

the best part of AH is that everyone you are fighting against is another real live person somewhere tyring to kill you.
like mentioned, it should be illegal according to the FDA. it is worse than crack.

I never understood how people could fly in BF1942 or BF Vietnam. Take off...turn turn turn...try and have a quick glance to see any targets...turn turn turn...ooops went off the map and die.
Flying in AH is so superior to flying in those games they simply aren't comparable.
I think you will enjoy it...but it is nothing like BF games flying at all.

"Take off...turn turn turn...try and have a quick glance to see any targets...turn turn turn...ooops went off the map and die."
lol. For a moment thier I could of sworn you were really describing FA and AW

Don't judge the game by it's offline performance. The drones need to explode to be 'shot down' and can fly without wings.
Not much is put into the offline version and it's all about the online play.
Offline has its part though. You can get out of it what you put into it. You can learn the commands, flight model, and shooting down the drones can be good target practice as long as you just don't saddle up on thier 6's and shoot.
-
In additions to fuseman's advice about flying it in Offline mode and going to the Training Arena, where you'll learn how to customize the game for your joystick ect., spend some time in the H2H (head to head) rooms. The fights come quicker so you'll learn initial ACM at a faster clip.
-
It is a very fun game. But, it is a very intense game. That is to say you will get out of it what you put into it. It has a learning curve that makes summitting mount Everest look like a walk in the park. Be prepared to suck relative to your peers for at least 6-12 months.

BF Flying is a joke! I played that game for a year and it was quick fun. Their were some good players but you never got to know them. In Ah we have a very large player base if you fly during the same time each day you will get to know other players. Its great because after your skill level comes it feels so good to kill someone 6 months ago you had no chance of winning. "Like Myself" Skill level plays a major factor in this game. Learn in the TA then pick up a squad and they will teach you. It takes time to become a great stick..
Funny when i was playing Bf some players said that they were great pilots (: That only takes a week and a stick!

You have to be carefull with that. Big reason I had no clue (as far as fighters go) about what I was doing for the first couple of years, were the squads I was in. Just make sure their main war/game objectives are also yours before you join them.
-
dedalos That's tru.. I have only been in one squad so i have no idea what goes on in the other squads in AH. WOT is laid back we do run missions but for the most part we do our own thang. If i would like to wing up with others our squad has some great sticks. What i love is that if i get gang bang and someone calls me out i can make the call and have a world of hurt with 20 guys kill him and his squad and then we will take that base (:

Thanks for the feedback so far.
I tried it out, and I must say the learning curve is quite steep. The interface, and controls are a bit confusing, but like most in depth games, takes time to learn I guess.
Any other links to sites will help out alot for guides and tips, and faq's.
Edit:
The game play seems very fun and controls are nice to, The only thing is the graphics seem very outdated, like 1991 graphics. Any plans on a revamp of them?

The game that came before this, Air Warrior, was made by the same people under a different company. That, my dear sir, was 1991 graphics. However, the planes in this game are slowly being redone, while more are being added with the updated graphics.
B17, B24, 190/109 series, P47 series, P51B/D, T34 are the ones that are at the "new" level that I can think of.

Hes how it went for me, uh started about 8-9 months ago I guess.
At first its a challenge to figure out what the hell to do, the game offers little clues and callous players even less.
Then you have fun teaming up and accomplishing things and figuring out all the different planes & what they're good for.
Once youve kinda got computer flight thing down, its fun to distance from the safety of a large group and take more people on 1 on 1... figuring out flaps, throttle, how to hold engery.
At one point I was ready to bail on this seemingly impossible game, there are guys out there so well practiced they'll pwn you inside 10 seconds no matter what.. getting slaughtered is not fun. The one day 2 guys jumped me and I killed em both... that was fun, Then I fair and squard killed a dude who had killed 100 times without me even scratching his paint... that was fun.
"Fun" comes and goes, if you get bored with one style of play AH offers lots of challenging alternatives.
My suggestion is hook up with a big squad that takes new guys, lots of em out there. And get ready to be the worst player on the map, youll get slaughtered, mocked and all that other gaming goodness... try to have fun while doing so and you'll be just fine.

Honestly, and this is just one mans opinion, that is most of the time the wrong thing to do. Play the game by yourself and at the same time spend some time in the TA. More importantly (harder now that the DA has been destroied) find someone to go to the DA with you. All it takes is a couple of weeks to learn how to be decent in a fighter and to figure out how YOU want to play the game. Then you can join a squad if you like.
If you join right away, you will learn to play the way your squad wants you to play. Not always a good match. I left my first 3 squads the same day I joined them.
-
Yes, there are some real good virtual pilots out there and truth be told, you may never get as good as they are.
You have to remember though, with a little work, time and effort you will generally be better then the new guy that joins tomorrow :)
-
Graphics seem pretty good to me. Back in the day (AH1) graphics were worse but the game was still great fun to play
-
If it were me, I would suggest, in order;
1) Read netaces.org in depth, and anything else you can find related to the mechanics of ACM.
2) Do a familiarization offline. Just get your controls sorted out, find the command keys, learn how to set and use the radio, etc...
3) Go online, and straight to the Training Arena. Hook up with an AH Trainer, and do whatever they tell you. Spend a lot of time there, at first. You could probably ask for an appointment right here on this board, and one will agree to meet you at a specific time and date.
4) Take your lessons from training, and bring your n00bie butt to the Main Arena to try things out in the soup.
5) Eat humble pie for quite some time. Finally land your first kill, get excited, then eat more pie. :D
6) Once you're fully in the MA, keep up your training. You'll get your backside handed to you on a platter for awhile, but you'll get better.
7) After awhile, start to evaluate squads. Don't take the first invite sombody screams over the radio "ANYBODY WANNA JOIN MY NEW SQUAD?". Check out websites, then request an opportunity to fly with a squad for a while, to get a feel for the group and the game they play. Make a careful selection, as you'll find your squad can have an influence on your game and skills, and experienced squaddies can teach you tons. Plus, you start to enjoy the interaction with bunches of people.
In a lot of ways, I think the steep learning curve is part of the appeal here. You will not pick this up in a half-hour. Years from now, you'll still be discovering how to use and react to the environment and refining your tactics. On top of that, you've got over 70 or 80 machines to master, as well.
And forget everything you know about 'flying' in WW2 or BF2. That's arcade-game flying. This is far more like the real thing, and that much tougher.
Luck!
