Did in any way make it harder to ride the horn at all for i use to be able to fly a 38 at about 110 in a sharp turn now once i hit 150 it seems to drop like a rock! It is really frustrating having to re learn planes that take forever to be moderate at. So can someone explain what it does?

From what HT said it seems to be an effort to add immersion to the flying. Additionally, he and others seem to feel it helps you maintain a good low speed turn (i.e. stay just above the buffet and you're turning well). Do a search on buffeting. Posts from HT and others are recent.

Here ya go: http://www.hitechcreations.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=174069.
There's a pretty detailed explanation, and also a few anecdotes from some real pilot dweebs. Think HT posted in another thread discussing how it works, but I haven't found it yet. Anyway, that one's a good start.

Of all aircraft I've tested since the patch, the P-38s took the biggest hit resulting from"Made several changes to the flight model affecting static thrust, propeller slipstream effects, ground effect, flaps and slats."
You should have noticed that the sink rate in the ground effect has increased for all aircraft.
Some aircraft saw a positive change. For example, the F6F-5 is no longer floppy with full flaps. You can turn continuous circles as slow as 101 mph. That's a marked improvement as the previous F6F-5 would depart at 112-115 mph. Also not adversely affected were the F4Us. With full flaps, I can turn continuous circles at 99 mph in an F4U-1D. Both of these can be flown into the buffet without serious consequence, although the F6F seems more at ease nose high. You can get the P-47D-11 down to 106 mph doing the same thing, and its quite stable.
P-51s show no major changes, but can only manage about 121 mph in a full flap, minimum speed circle. It will not sustain getting it slower. P-38s are now only slightly better than the P-51s in this respect.
109s lost their floppiness and handle beautifully now. Even the 190s show greater stability at low speeds, but getting them slow enough to utilize flaps requires a climbing turn or pulling off power.
Spitfires don't seem to have suffered, but their sink rates have increased enough to catch you by surprise.
Deadstick landings will require greater speed over the numbers (end of the runway) or you will drop like a stone when you attempt to flare.
What's important to remember is that if you are buffeting, you've already crossed the line and your turn performance is degrading.
My regards,
Widewing

Aftr giving a little time, i gotta say that I REALLY like the buffet effect. As a journeyman pilot, I'm still trying to climb the competence curve, and riding the buffet feels much more natural than riding the horn in a fight. The feedback -- vibration and control impairment -- tells me much better where I am in approaching the envelope's edge.
My control feels so much better that I honestly had to go back to settings to be sure I had stall limiter still off!!
Most of what I've read here has talked about the immersion effects, but I'm most impressed with the way the new features are helping me manage the rides.
A hearty for HTC!!!

Try this video. Quality SUCKS but you can see yours truly depart controlled flight twice. A little buffet and adios to the airflow. Thank goodness the Marchetti is a puddy tat with no wind over the wings :)
RV6 is the enemy bandit in the other aircraft.
Air Combat USA Video (http://www.furballunderground.com/Guest/Golfer/areveegolfer.wmv)
3:15 in the movie begins the fight sequences.
Point of the video is to show that HiTech did pretty good at getting it right.
Video is from May 2003. Not a new flick.

Stall buffet is the best FM enhancement in a long while.
-
yea about the 38's i read somewhere forgot where but it said the 38J had terrible buffet effects and the 38L was fixed from that. Im wonder if they changed that to emcumber each plane or is it at a set speed and is it even true?

You better save me some Roast Beef at the Buffet! Oh wait, not that Buffet.
-
Not as bad as the Ggggggguuuuunnnnnnn Ssssssshhhhhhhhhaaaaaakkkkeee eeee. :D

Widewing has nailed it to the wall yet again.
The good news is that it teaches you where the edge is.
While it takes some learning it is IMO a great enhancement to an already great FM.

Golfer at what point do you depart?
-
Just before he says "you just departed" and again toward the end when the world outside starts spinning round and round while my nose is still pointed up.
-
Yeah I couldn't tell, angles are pretty bad. Looks like fun tho.
-
it's the quality. On the tape you can see it quite clear however since its a recording of a projected recording...not so much.
One day I will have a VHS drive on my computer. or at least something that works :)

Sirloin, I agree stall buffet IS the best change to AH since I've been playing.
