Oops, posted before I was done...

What's noteworthy about this bug is that M$ has known about it for some time, code to exploit it is in circulation, and M$ is still *thinking about* releasing a patch.

We should rename this thread "Why I don't use IE".

Between this and the fact that the next version of Windows was pushed back to 07Q1, Microshaft is batting a thousand this year.  It's too bad the the PS3 isn't being released on time so that Sony could kick them while they are down.

From what I've heard from skuzzy.......this is a good thing.

I'm seriously thinking about trying Lindows or even just setting up a linux box for the heck of it.

I love linux and its cousins FreeBSD and OpenBSD. Unfortunately, I don't think any of them will play Aces High.

There are 3 options, 2 of which I'd recommend.

1) Use an old machine for linux, and have 2 consoles. I have an old p100 that just won't quit. It runs linux just fine, and I use it as a file server and general purpose shell machine (plays MP3s while I fly, etc). My firewall is a p200 which handles a 6MB throughput with firewalling, IDS and a few other functions without breaking a sweat.

2) Run linux on a virtual machine on your windows box. This is great for a beginner because it takes a lot of the hassle out of the way while you learn your way around. The most robust way to do this is with VM Ware. A full blown install of linux runs in a window on your windows machine. You can suspend it at any time, so it won't hog resources when you need them. Another major benefit is that you can revert back to previous states when you screw up. Oops, I deleted some system files! No problem, yesterday's state is a file on your windows box, just switch states back.

CoLinux - http://colinux.org/ Kinda like VMWare lite. Runs a scaled down version of linux in a window. Not as good as VMware though.

3) dual boot. (I don't recommend this because it's a royal pain to switch between OSes)

Aces High can be made to run on linux. You need a windows emulator, and you're still going to take a performance hit. However, it can work :) The major downside is trying to make *everything* work at once. Aces High, correct video, joystick, pedals, trackIR, etc, etc.

Why does anyone still use Intardnet Explorer?

Better than IE (http://www.mozilla.org)

Just saved me a post.
but to add to that

Firefox 2.0 Due by summer (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1914918,00.asp)

As a highlight

"Goodger's "brief snapshot" of to-do items include user-interface improvements such as a cleaner look, but also productivity features such as an inline spell checker for webmail and other HTML-based applications.

Hmmm does that mean we might be able to use it here?

No Browser is 100% safe but
Just read in another article that as of 10/05 IE had some 85 known vulnerabilities
Firefoxes known vulnerabilities...25

I'm not very PC savy. If I wanted to make Firefox my primary explorer do I just delete IE and install Firefox? Or is it more complicated than that? Sorry for the hijack but I've been thinking about doing it for some time now and figured I should ask while it's being talked about.

You dont want to uninstall IE as its the only one Microsoft recognises if you ever need to go there

Just install Firefox.
IT will ask you if you want to copy over your bookmarks from IE

When you run it the first time it should ask you if you want Firefox to be your default Web Browser.
If not just go to your internet settings and change it so it is

Oh and after you install and run it check out the extentions (under "Tools") for any other goodies you might want to add to it

I particularly recommend

Adblock (https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=10&application=firefox)

And
ADblock Filterset G updater (https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?application=firefox&category=Privacy%20and%20Security&numpg=10&id=1136)

Im sure there are others people will recommend also
