I lost a wing to 1 hit from CV ack to a CV on the other side of the island from where I was when I was just in there. It was firing at me as soon as I took off.
Hard to get alt against the HOing Hogs ("we out run, out gun, out zoom and out dive anything they have... I know, lets just keep HOing until we kill something!") when you can't even climb out of your field without their ack shooting at you.

Love the HO story. I got HO'd five times last night when I logged in. By 109s, KI-61s, and even a Zeke. I got vulched trying to get out of A18 , I even got vulched on the CV. Your acting like this crap never happens on your side of the fence. It didn't seem to me the ack was effective enough.
Maybe your squad doesn't HO but they seem to be the exception.
After last night my HO switch is hard wired to on. It makes more sense to try and get the first lick in then to be a good sport. After all it is about combat, and combat is about killing. I'm glad I got HO'd all those times. It got me out of the HOing is wrong frame of mind. From now on if your in my gun sights I'm shooting. The direction your facing is your problem.
-
The ack range can't be adjusted. The lethality of acks is however lower than the usual (MA) values.

HMMMMM...:huh

I like a ho occasionally.....wait a minute wrong kind of ho....sorry. Anyway I still try to shoot first whenever possible. Especially if I am flying my F4U-1 on this map. It makes the rest of the fight much easier if I can get in the first licks and knock something loose with my .50's. BUT for me it doesn't matter which plane I use. If you let me take the shot then I am going to take it.

Grupal 7 Don't HO.
At least they have never made a habit of it, when I've fought em.
I still think Husk as some wierd get out of death free card when I shoot at him.:D

Santa HOs. On Blitzen. :t

I don't HO if I see the guy is trying to turn, but if I see tracers I open up.
-
I've seen guys turn. I'm not sure what "trying to turn" looks like. If you wait for tracers, it's too late. Not to mention that some don't use `em.
`Ole! (I like it when they HO) I miss this game. :D

I honestly don't understand why people reply simply to make a quippy comment.... I suppose they want their number of posts to reign supreme...
-
I know I only HO after I am HOed first or if the pilot seems too good and those are the only shots I can get (like after about 5 minutes of looping and turning and neither one of us can get a clean shot).
Or if we're going to collide otherwise. :D

He's saying its a valid tactic and if you lose to the ho its your own fault. His number of posts only means he's a bit chatty. Just dont get him singing:(

I wish I had your reflexes. By the time I see the tracers it's too late , and I'm riding the funeral pyre. If it happens once or twice , I'm usually okay. After that I get a case of the *** , and end up HOing some poor bastage that had nothing to do with it.

Didn't mean to be quippy myself, it's just frustrating sometimes on the forums when people post simply to make people look silly...or at least it seems like that sometimes. I also probably shouldn't post after being irritated by people at work... :)
Arlo
I don't mind HO's as a tactic in a twisty turny fight. But when a guy flies straight at you from the edge of vis range, runs until you give up, and then repeats....it does get a little old. To me that wouldn't be a satisfying kill.
-
So did that ack range get turned down or... wait... what were we talking about again? :p

Ack is fine at .25. My guess is that it was either a lucky hit, or a manned gun on one of the boats.
Ack on this map has always been an issue, because there are so many carriers and bases and, hence, so much ack. Random hits are bound to happen, but the bigger problem seems to be people capping bases and/or fleets. Further reducing the ack will make this bad situation worse.

Yeah, once we got more guys in the air last night, it seemed to cut down on that.
Instead the CV gunners were shooting at the fighters that were escorting the bombers that were trying to sink the CVs.

For the record, Husk is a freak of nature. Shoot at him, he catches the bullets in his teeth and spits them back, knocking off your rudder.
The one you really have to watch for is 0nt0smk1. He's just mean.
Yes, I avoid the HO when possible. On the other hand, in the Pac theatre, I expect the Allieds to try to HO. US planes take more punishment and generally can't turn with the Jap planes.
So please, HO away. It's your best move.
-
ha!! I wish that was the case................
Maybe thats why i have no teeth left in my head.........
AAAHH yeah ,the big O is a meany...makes me cry all the time:cry

:rofl
as for the whole HO situation...
most people know how i HATE when i get HO'd. If you get a kill on me with a HO and I'm not saying anything back it's because I'm seriously cussing out the computer:furious

I'd HO P47s if I had to fly against them after last night. I had one of those nights where you just can't get in the groove. I had no kills , I got one asst on you Plat. I was flying a P-47 , and kept managing to get alone , and slow with ethier a Zeke , or a Tony, as my only company. That damn TBolt was nothing but splinters on three sorties. It was just soaking up punishment, and staying airborne. Too bad I couldn't get it properly into the fight.
I did however almost feel sorry for the IJ guys on three occasions , they'd completely whipped my butt , but I was able to limp away and land.
My luck ran out on sortie #4 when JG54 payed a visit to A18 right after I took off. I was going to try and run east, but figured what the hell, they flew all this way might as well be nieghborly and play with em. As usuall that was a mistake Wildesau blew me away I'm pretty sure the other planes with him got in some licks as well.
I don't think the TBolt would have taken all that punishment in HO shots, but from a dead 6 oclock it was one tough customer.
Hmm you always gave me the impression you loved to be HO'd
;)

Give a guy the chance to use his guns, and they whine "why didn't you show me your tail?" .............are the same ones who cry when you slip a new rope around their necks............
The ack must have been the proverbial "Golden BB", that is all.......
Now return to Duty Stations, all of you, that is an Order..........
FYI: 0nt0s is a cuddly teddybear, I am the really mean one of the group, no confusion or moral compunctions whatsoever concerning the head-on.........one man's trash is anothers treasure....MUHAHAHAHHHAA:t

what I got from that is that when u merge, you are nose on ready to face shoot if they fire 1st.
"I only ho if they ho 1st" is just plain silly. That's just another way of saying "merges confuse me"
you probably need to work on your merge.
during a merge, if your plane is in a position to face shoot someone, then you are screwing up.
I know if you merged with me and were roughly nose on to my plane at the merge, you'd be dead in 2 passes or less. I'm almost done with my lead turn (and 1/2 way to being on your 6) and you are deciding which way to break. You have two options then, keep on trucking, which is a ho joust and run merge (i.e. merges confuse me pilot), or maneuver, in which case I am already in position and almost saddled, and you are visiting the tower soon.
I love pilots that ho.
Face shooting pilots.
-
This Thread had to do with ack range if I recall......NOT A MORALITY TALE on face shooting or a place to impress us with with your armchair ACM skills. REMEMBER.......YOU ARE "FLYING" A COMPUTER...................No body is impressed but your own EGO.

I dunno. Very first post in topic had the words "HOing hogs" in it. Didn't it? :D

The funniest thing though Kuhn. The safest place in the arena is in my gunsights. Just ask Husk.:D

No kidding Shifty, I often wonder why the rounds dont seem to go where I tell them to go. And yeah, I have been in Husks sights too many times. Al ways ends up the same "Husk shot you down".

I know I spent over 4 minutes at one point on Husks 6 last night at ranges between 600 and less than 200. He does not stir the stick ethier. He was just flying smooth evasives. I blew away every tree, and snowflake, near him during that time and put very few rounds in him. I flew away with empty guns, only to have another pony saddle up and kill him. I still think I can hear him laughing.:lol

Boy does that scenario bring back some memories!

Thats where my SA was lacking Shifty...seen you bank off and relaxed ,not knowing another 51 was waiting in the wards licking his chops...never seen the tag out...
Kuhn, that was one of the best 1v1 i`ve had for a while , great flying...!
