Title: Actually, HT, I was quite serious
Post by: Toad on March 28, 2006, 03:40:32 PM
HT,

So why do only GV's get to spawn to the fight and not buffs or fighters?

I'm sure you have a reason, would you mind sharing the logic behind it?

Thanks in advance.

Time to fight is aproximatly the same.

Airfields spacing is set for the same resone, to keep engagment time in the 5 min range. Or would you also like airfields much farthar apart to make them real life distance.

Based on approximate time to fight.

What plane is used as the baseline? If I might ask.

And putting field the RL distance apart leads to .... either the end of AH or "wormholes" like CT will use?

Will the CT  "wormholes" come out to about 5 minutes as well?

i remember when i was new and i didnt not know how to spawn gv/pt and i would drive hours and then get killed. those were the days. and i think it would be stupid for planes to spawn into the fight.

as if getting camped in a gv isnt bad enough. imagine spawning out in a plane and 10 niki's and la7's shooting you.

Never a true word said in jest.  AOL Fighter Ops made by Dale I belive.  It had 4 sides 4 Islands with 4 bases.  They had air spawns to.  You floated about about 2 k above air spawn and blasted everything till u ran outta ammo then ya ran like a good un.  Half then time you got vulched landing lol
:lol

A tank on the ground goes a lot slower than a plane in the sky and that can get severely irritating and boring.

I remember the day I quit WWIIOL when I was in a Stug and was in a column. We were driving for about 30min and suddenly I lost a tread to anti-tank gun. I was the only one hit since that gun was silenced after it was found. Imagine how that would be here in AH2 for GVs to approach a town or a base and get de-treaded.

Its a long drive and when you want to experience GV combat, thats too long.

Sure Toad, you can have air spawns.

The catch is, you spawn at 1000ft ASL, at 0mph IAS with your engine off. :D

If only EVERY map had an improved FT, I'd never mention all this again.

Promise.

* Improved = higher ring of mountains >50k, no troops in FT, no GV spawns in or out or anywhere.

How about removing the trees from .5 to 1 mile of the runways?

We *still* have maps with trees blocking airfields, or at least very close.

Skuzzy posted in another thread that if you have a problem with trees near the runway ...

make note of the map and the airfield number and email it to him

... he will then get out the chainsaw.

But time to rtb/land the kills  for a fighter is 3- 5 min, but a poor GV driver needs few hours to RTB  and land his victories, or on same maps is imposible, to drive back cuz spawns over lakes/sea.

imop GVers should have a landing spot close to spwan at enemy base

lol!!!

I di not know that he said he would do that..I'll take note.  Only causes issues sometimes in heavy bombers for me.

What about the mountains at the end of runways...dynamite?  ;)

Honestly, thats a coin in the air chance you'll land. Try spawning and then towering without moving. Sometimes you'll get a ditch.

i don't do much GVing, but i don't think that works, never worked before, unless something has been changed with last patch,
You can't land at spawn close to enemy base , unless no enemy is in icon range, wich doesn't happen if you are in gv close to enemy base,
imop,The landing spot should be marked somehow, give them a fair chance to land their kills,  are lot of players paying this game for GVs fights only,

I have to agree with ya there Toad.  A few alterations if they can be achieved easily would be nice to keep fighter town and tank town for what they were intended for.  Add no ords or troops to FT or TT bases and put the 50k+ ring of mountains and put no vehicle spawns in or out of either FT or TT.  Make FT and TT bases uncapturable.

I remember back in Air Warrior they made the capability of taking one base on each country almost impossible to take.  To take the base, not many players knew that it took 60 or 70 or so troops in a short period of time to take the base.  Although we did orchestrate a few successful massive takeovers take a few times, it was just to much trouble to do so.

Personally it doesn't bother me, but if some things were altered, it might keep those that it does affect negatively a little happier and keep those creating conflict from doing so.

yeah it was me and my brother stgr. he was just looking at some site online and clicked an aceshigh link. soon as he did that he called me. for the first couple days all we did was drive PT boats forever and that was fun. then we would go through all the planes on the list until we found one with tailguns, and one of us would up and the other would try to shoot at gv's on the ground (we could never get the lancs in the air) but it was fun, m16's came next, we used m16's until we had enough perks to see what a "tiger" was which we thought was going to be some crazy bellybutton looking tank, but it was just a bigger one. so we upped tigers with our first 50 points we got. and died right away it seemed.

now i look and see newbs doing the same thing lol
