Title: times they are a changin
Post by: jaxxo on March 29, 2006, 05:04:22 PM
i fear the 5k and below furball is dead..all I see now is 2 gaggles of cons, one friendly one enemy, running back to base and grabbing alt. The first sucker to come into the middle and engage is pounced upon, than the other side jumps on them. If you do get on someones six 5 friendlys with alt jump in front of you for killsteal or killshooter than scream "your clear!" in the mic like they just saved your life. I know its always been somewhat like this but it seems to be getting worse everyday...ahhh i feel better after a good cry...

peak hours are the worst... I don't bother logging in when the numbers are really high. The fights just aren't there... everyone just hovers on the half of the area closest to their base, and pounce on anyone that comes in and decides to fight. Late nights or early afternoon it's OK, though.. a little more like things were a few years back (not like they were that much better).

Oh, I dunno.

Seemed like lots of planes (all kinds) at all altitudes faced off between A3 and the Port last night. The fight went on all night and was a blast.  There was non stop action with the usual conveyor belts incoming and outgoing. Not much more I could ask for and I'm pretty sure all that were there had a great time.

i agree there are some big fights, it just seems that a furball used to involve 30 to 50 cons or so just reupping, going level and having at it..now its a buncha timid folks at 12k in a pack of ten all diving on the same con while he's already fighting 3 or 4..Ill have to adapt i guess and start being alot more picky about when and where i fight, which I hate

Yup its the new influx of people into AH and out with the old people of AH1 era.  People now worry to much about survival and winning the "war".  Flying over a1 tonight bish were no lower than 15k OVER THEIR OWN BASE .  There are some furballs of ol' AH1 era but they are not as common.  Hardly do furballs last very long as well.

Gets very irritating having to climb up to the enemy and let them come down to me.

I always thought they had to come down to die? :) Isn't that why the rooks never come down? The bish and knits, on the other hand, are more than happy to fight at any altitude. I haven't figured that one out yet.
Ideas anyone?

Well flying knights so far and this was up against the bish.  Bish came down with their alt advantage and still died. :D

See? Altitude is sometimes an illusionary advantage. :)

They really do gotta come down to die.

Air Warrior went through a phase like this too. No one left their borders unless they had both numbers and altitude on whatever they could see on the other side. All the cons I run into above 10K seem to be on their way to kill the nearest outhouse and decline combat entirely.

LOL. Ya know in the Training Arena I've always preached, "if yer not in a fight, grab" but I never, ever
said, "stay up there all night". :)

Don't stand in the doorway,
Don't block up the hall;
For he who gets hurt will be he who has stalled.
The old order is rapidly fading.

I kinda get what jaxxo's saying, but (no offense) everyone's been telling us LTAR's to "get in planes and be a man" "get out of those Flaks you wussy dweebs" and on & on & on.

So I have always said, "hey we bring variety to the game, what do you want a big plane furball 24/7?"  Which they always reply,  YEAH, this is a flying game, not a GV game!!!  So there ya have it, more and more people hopping in planes to do just what ya wanted --> furball, climb to the stars, HO, run, vulch, be timid, kill shoot, pork, ack hide, gang bang, cherry pick.......you name it.

Don't listen to me, I'm a GV dweeb;)

Remember in AH1 and the start of AH2 when you could guarantee a HUGE furball between A8 and whatever base on ND Isles??  Or the furball that ensued after a reset on Mindanao on the west cost?

Those were fun times:aok

An LTAR in a plane is like a female president...shouldn't happen.

I agree Ren.   I flew over to the port after seeing there was a few enemy GVs sitting in the indestructable hanger behind our VH that was down at the time.  I could almost see them drooling in their tigers and panzers waiting for the VH to come up and begin their killing spree.  I took a typhoon over there with 2 1000 lb eggs and dropped them both on the indestructable and killed them all.  I then could concentrate on the enemy fighters that looked like a horde of flies.  Everyone was firing everywhere. It was a blast.  Although I died on one of the trips to the port, it was definitely a target rich environment and a good old fashion gang fight of bnz, turn fights, cherry-picking, 3 vs 3, etc.

No one really likes to get gang-raped.  I just buckle on the old chastity belt and dive in.  I try to land when I can but I think if pilots worried less about a few measly perk points, they would have more fun in the game.  I try to do my part to help with the knight cause but half the time when I sign on the next day, we are on another map anyways.  There is always something to do, whether it be irritating the enemy or dying a horrible death.

I kinda like gettin ganged. Its very exciting. If in a 1 vs 8, and you can kill a few of them, to me its a victory in itself even if I eventually die...as my stats show. Flying to and from a base isnt for me. I like my time mixing it up, whether its 10 on me, or 10 of us on 1. It all balances out.

Heaven forbid our Creator made us all different.  Oh my, we just  might  prefer different styles of game play, none of which is superior to the other, unlike what has been stated in the myriads of threads about this topic.  Don't listen to me, I'm a B-17 nut.   ;)

If you wanted a good fight you should have been down in the valley south of A1, great fights in there!!!

It is a pain when you get to an enemy field up high and some nasty enemy wrecks your cherrypick/vulch by being up there with you

I took up a 262 , for , like the second time in 5 years, I shot down a Stuka. When I landed, it said I owed them 3 perk points.
