Title: How many new gun owners have you...
Post by: lazs2 on March 30, 2006, 08:47:37 AM
created?   I think that as a gun owner and advocate of citizens firearms rights...  Getting new people into owning firearms is the best thing I can do...

Lifetime?  I don't know... probly dozens of people have gotten firearms after being around me and enjoying a day shooting.

LOL... funny you should mention that Laz. I've got six regular 'shooters' enlisted now that have aquired and shoot their own military pattern collectables. We generally get out 1 weekend a month to work on team fire techniques. The range guys refer to us the 'Old Foagie Militia' and actually call the line to accomodate us. LOL!

One thing I look for in a Woman is that she isn't afride of firearms. I'm not getting rid of my guns for anyone.
One of many things I love about my currant girfriend is that she has a CWP. And if she hadn't broken her wrist late last year in a car accendent, we'd be going to the gun range down from the house. But  later this year she'll be able to do that.

Hmmmmm....that would be a hard question to answer. Not sure, but quite a few.
My four daughters and wife for starters.
I was an active member of East Texas Varmint Hunters Association for a few years. We held many benchrest competitions that generated a lot of interest and got people interested.
Usualy if you can get someone who hasn`t been exposed to shooting and firearms to experience it just once, they are hooked.

Myself, and my cousin.  Not so sure I should have gotten my cousin in to shooting though, wild kid + guns= not good.

Then there was that cult of Manson followers....

Im seriously considering getting a hand gun for myself. The main consideration is how life is changing for people who live in Toronto. This city has become much more violent over the past couple years. Most of you heard about what happened on Boxing Day this year on Yonge Street; Two rival gangs having a shootout in one of the busiest areas and ultimately a 15 year old girl dies in the street.
It was just a short while ago when we had six separate shootings all unrelated all in different areas of the city and only 2 hours apart.
Today we had 2 stabbings at 2 different high schools.
You know what really concerns me? What if I have a gun, and something really really crappy happens (like you catch the woman cheating) ... how would you stop yourself from grabbing the gun that's in the house? I'm not kidding you all...scares me to think I'd use it in anger. (I have NO problem using a weapon for self defense)
Is this fear something you all felt or is it just me?

Man I cant really respond to this one. Everybody I know has been involved with gun ownership at different times in their lives. Those that I come accross who dont like guns arent in my life that long to even try.

Guess its just a location thing. :(

Wait....
there was one student worker where I work that did not own a gun. She had been however planing on buying one and aften asked me random gun questions up to the point she did go out and buy one. I cant say that I created one because she was already wanting one prior meeting her.

God only knows. My family has been in the gun business for as long as Ive been alive. I worked in our stores all through out highschool and often times would help out while I was in college, not to mention the time spent there just hanging out then ending up selling a gun because I was just the one standing behind the counter at the time. I cant begin to count the number 22 Lr. "chipmunk"s I've sold to a father and his son for his sons first rifle.

All of my friends now own and carry a gun. I helped my sisters boyfriend in getting his pistol permit and he also carries. He sent three of his cousins in and now they all do the same. The list for me is endless. The best if when the father and son come in for the sons first rifle. Gotta love that.

xtoronto,

If you think you might behave in that way then you should seriously consider not possessing a firearm.

XToronto the thing about gun ownership is control. Control of yourself.. and that weapon. Lose control of the weapon.. or yourself... somebody dies. Huge responsibility. Don't approach it lightly. For personal protection in normal circumstances a baseball bat is likely all you will ever need in your closet. If you live in a place where you are in mortal fear from gangs.. move.

If you EVER use a gun for self protection you will be up against a hostile and disbelieving police, a closed-minded society and a judicial system that can't tell the diffrence between 'self defense' and 'unnecessary force'. You life will likely be ruined, your future in the trash, your bellybutton likely in a jail cell.

Again.. think real hard about getting a gun to 'carry'. If you really think you 'need' one where you are, you really oughta move 'cause that's NO place to have a home, a family and start a life.

Having a weapon as a collector.. or as a hobby/shootist or hunter, or put away against a catastrophic set of circumstances, different story altogether. But to have it 'because it's not safe here anymore'.. the real deal is it's time to be someplace else.
