Any of you military or former military guys ever had them try to recruit you?
They are going to be here recruiting soon. I wish my fat bellybutton was in better shape. I'm going to apply anyway, but they'll probably just laugh at me. Ah well. For what they are paying I'll dress up in a clown suit. :)

I know a couple of guys that took their fit test for security positions before they got out. These guys were in shape and they said it was extremly tough. Who knows they might be desprate.
The only problem with working blackwater in a hotzone is you have very little of the protections provided US troops as far as laws of armed conflict go and gratuity death benifits.
-
I doubt if there's anything in the Geneva conventions that protect mercenaries.
So, you have that going for you as well. :aok
-
The chances of anyone getting in that is not former spec ops is very small.

they have alot of positions needed, even so they hire strait up grunts and cops. The testing is tough.
But like I said you do not have LOAC protections.
Mistakes happen in conflict. Civilians get killed. If you as a mercinary where to have a "mistake" and kill civilians you could easily be tried in criminal Iraqi court for your "crimes".

I have no illusions about getting in. It's a pipe dream. I'm overweight, out of shape, and have several physical injuries that limit my mobility. That never stopped me before. And who knows how desperate they are? lol
From what I understand these guys have one of the best private military forces on the planet. Heck, the guys that run it are all ex-SEALs. They have special forces recruits from almost every country with a military. I know I cant match up to those kinds of recruits, even on my best day. I'm hoping more for a "support staff" kinda thing. Wont know if I dont ask.

If ya make it let me know. Sounds like we are in the same shape.

somewhere near there right? it would have to show up if wikipedia is right and they own 6000 acres (almost 10 square miles)

Looks like a version of Air America for Gunts :) I like it!! :aok

StarOfAfrica2:

That may not be true.
This is a shady outfit, run by some shady people. Proceed at your own risk.
"Hey Mike, wtf am I supposed to do with this fat dude?"
"Send him out to look for snipers."

I know two guys that work(ed) for them, one was an ex combat controller, the other an ex-PJ Both stated it was the toughest physical exam they had ever done... Both are now dead! Reality sets in real quick. However, they both knew what they were getting into.

Blackwater is scraping the barrel now. Most if not all the SEAL and SF types have made the big bucks and have moved on. There are some real "winners" out there now. Add Dynacorp and Triple Canopy also.
My own experiance.
-
Scraping the barrel = opportunity. I'm not being naive, even in shape and all there's a damn good chance of not coming back. If they'll take me I'll take my chances. A year and a half out of my life would net me a pretty good financial stake. Not to mention it would look damn good on my resume and open some doors for me later on. Of course my wife isnt speaking to me right now, the last thing she said was "if you are stupid enough to want to kill yourself, there are easier ways."
Eh. Either way, I'll know soon enough.

She is. And probably right too. I've never been given any awards for being the smartest guy in the group. Stubbornest? Mabye.

Lets see if there is a litmus test here for your level of "smartness".
You currently now live and work in Hawaii and you want to go work in the Middle East in what is by all accounts a very inhospitible place both by climate and population behavior.
Yep yer pretty damn stupid alright.
:p  :lol

no shame in having the adventure gene... and if what yah do takes some heat off our kids doing duty in a dirty place and protects american lives...
hope it don't cost you a marrige or worse...

I have a buddy in BlackWater. He is a Marine, came out a Lance Corporal in 1994. He has been in since the Fall of 2004.
The above shoots "the theory of Special Forces being the requirement". I'll have to email him tomorrow. Last I heard he was manning a SAW, mounted in the bed of an F-350. His buddy was manning another in an F-250, he was killed by an RPG.

Not anymore, they will take anyone that can pass the training. Your a body that makes them money. Of course you get a bit out of it too. We contract them out in Iraq and Crapistan.
Most bolo out because of the security clearance.
If it is something you want to do - Good luck.
-
I read where they want to be able to provide a battalion size force for low intensity conflicts to the highest bidders. Think was on Military.com this week.
-
Did anyone bother to read from there website there requirments or are you just pulling it out of your arses?
I quote.
YOU MUST MEET OR EXCEED ALL OF THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS: Must have minimum of one (1) year experience in providing protective security services in: special operations, US military special forces, US Secret Service, or other federal agencies, commercial executive protection services, or law enforcement experience (i.e. US Military Police/Criminal Investigation Division, local & state law enforcement agencies).
-
An ex 58 driver friend of mine is currently flying for BW...$800 a day for a 60/30 schedule...Granted they are making the big bucks because they are buzzing around the skies of Iraq on nights when the weather has all the regular units sitting safe and sound in their cots, and if they get shot down the only people coming to rescue you is guys that wanna dress you in orange pajamas and make you famous...Candy ass's need not to apply.
Prereq is 3000 hours! I am impressed with the MINIMUM qualifications. Not many guys that can fit that bill AND want to get shot at everyday too.
I dont know anyone on the "grunt" side of BW, but I really think you should put a lot more thought into this africa...Do you love your wife? IS 80-100 grand for one year really worth the strong possibility of getting kidnapped and your head sawed off?
goodluck

My partner has been with Triple Canopy for nearly 2 years now and only has good things to say about them. As for Blackwater, Aegis, Dyncorps, his experience in working around them has been..mixed.
You don't necessarily have to be x specops, or even x anything to get in at Blackwater. I had a 20 year old guy with zero experience who was in decent shape on one of my courses here with globerisk.com, and he was so horrible with basic small arms he was becoming a danger to himself and others, so we washed him out on day 2. Well, he begged and pleaded to stay, so after spending 2 days of 1 on 1 training with him, he began to catch on somewhat resonably. Fast forward to today, and he's been with Blackwater for nearly a year now. Go figure.

In February, Blackwater USA, a North Carolina-based Pentagon contractor, began hiring former combat personnel in Chile, offering them up to $4,000 a month to guard oil wells in Iraq.
I certainly hope they pay Americans more then that.
while 4 grand a month may be alot for someone from Chile.
Thats Peanuts for an American considering the dangers involved.
I can make more then that by not risking getting shot at

Everything is waiverable.
There are Army cooks working PSS for Blackwater now.

Do you really love your wife? That's a hell of a thing to put your wife through. Don't be so sure she'll be there for you when you get back. No amount of money is worth that. Your wife shouldn't have to go through her daily dose of living hell worrying about whether the man she married is going to come back in a body bag.
-
1000/week = 52k/year.
Not worth it.

Tell ya what I will believe more of what I read on there website more than what some of you keyboard commandos are saying.
Yeah they might hire a cook if they need a cook but he aint gonna be no security contractor thats for sure.
Dont believe me? well go ahead and see if they will hire anyone that does not have the skills listed on there site.
Oh and please feel free to show us all the proof when you do.

Ok ok, look. The whole idea here is that yeah, I'm thinking of doing this because if they would take me it would be a chance at setting my life right financially and getting a stake so maybe I can go back home and setup my own business. Thats a BIG if, considering the shape I'm in and that I really dont qualify for employment under their guidelines. The whole point is moot though if the wife wont go along. I mean, any plans I make for my future have to include her. I may not be the brightest bulb in the lamp, but I havent gone completely dark yet. So yeah, if she wont go along, then I'd have to back off. I'm not heartless. Even if she does go along, my odds of getting employed by them arent that great. The only things I have going for me arent listed in the requirements. The requirements that ARE listed I fail miserably.
Its not so much that she worries about me dying. We are both pretty secure in our philosophies on death. If you die, you die. Everyone does. Her philosophy though is, why rush it? And while I'm not exactly good at avoiding brushes with death, I'm not jumping in line to commit suicide either. Its just my philosophy is more like I'm gonna go sometime, why not push the odds a bit and go for the payoff?
Ive got 2 days. 3 days really, since they'll be here 2 days interviewing. Whatever happens, happens.

Of course a cook won't be doing PSD work if that's the ONLY skill he has. However, I can easily prove to you that x military people who were in non
combat arms trades that go and take some training from a school like ours, HK, Ronin in South Africa, TEES, or other places like this can suffeciently pad their resume that they can get their foot in the door. A lot of the companies are using many people such as this. In fact, Blackwater which HAS been using operators with this level of experience and training will be forced to use even more if they are only paying 150$ a day for site security. The last contract offer I think that came up was 15000$K USD a month doing the exact same thing, site security in Afghanistan. An X PPCLI buddy of mine is doing this there right now and says there is lots of non-x military types doing this work, as the well is drying up for good, experienced guys for the big money PSD jobs.

Well there is a reason your wife isn't speaking to you. Shouldn't she be involved in this type of decision? Seems like you're disrespecting her input. If you get killed, it affects her both financially and emotionally. Your being gone for that contract period also affects her.
If not in a body bag, how would your getting paralysed, maimed by an IED be? Risk not only death, but perhaps bound to a wheel chair for the rest of your life?
I'm not trying to bust your chops here. I do wish you the best of luck and success whatever choice you make. Just don't forget your wife in the decision making process, okay? She deserves it.

Got a buddy that put in 6 years with the 82nd airborne and he tried to get on with them.
They told him no thanks so he went to the Mcmillan sniper school and he is on a waiting list.
they told him that they would give priority to spec ops people.
BTW the Mcmillan school is first rate the owners son is an active duty Seal.
