Interesting.

I think any healing power that prayer might have is more about the healing power of the mind than the prayer itself. Plus, Jebus really likes to mess with scientists, so the results really can't be trusted (he's pretty kooky that way). ;)

I can't believe anyone would waste their time studying that. Besides thats like asking for proof. Which we all know is a no-no
Deuteronomy 6:16
"Thou shall not tempt the Lord"

The mind has a large control over the body. The idea of mind/body separation can be kinda detrimental to patients with potentially terminal illnesses. There are many cases where terminal cancer patients suddenly went into remission, where the only variable was the thought of a healthy prognosis. I think nurses regularly do some form of positive reinforcement despite the actual status of whatever their physical state.
Now as far as faith healing or prayers go, I dont think it has any effect, whether the patient is aware or not.

I really didn't think this type of philosophy was easy enough for even you to figure out. ;)
Its not those that pray for you, the sick....its YOU that prays (Struggles to live) that heals. :aok

Yep. Its a cheap attempt (by the author? by those attempting to capture these metrics?) to further support ones own theory that there is no God. Just as bad as those who see the virgin mary in a grilled cheese sandwich, only on the other side of the spectrum.

The odds of you being healed by Chuck Norris are better. Booya!

Yup.. he has that oriental secret martial art healing thingy plus he could hit you in just the right spot if your ticker stops. All he has to do is unbutton his shirt and put on a bandana and he is set.

Interesting "study", but I'm not impressed. I was never one to follow fads in high school either. Given the inherent difficulty in measuring the spiritual, I think a prudent person might conclude that this study is severely lacking. No control groups are mentioned at all, for example, nor is any form of standardization specified. There is no mention for instance, of the state of the souls in the test subjects who had the surgury or the participants who prayed. There is no way to prove how the participants prayed, or if they prayed at all. It occurs to me that one could pray for John Wayne Gacy, the serial killer to be spared his life from capital punishment, but if your prayer is counter to God's wishes, would God answer your prayers? The "study" leaks like a sieve.
Might not GOD take a dim view of mere humans attempting to empirically catoragize, measure and evaluate what is usually considered to be a sacred personal communication between man and God? If you postulate the power of prayer, you can also postulate the power of God to answer or ignore.
If the power of the placebo, which demonstrates the power of belief in a subject, is accepted as scientific fact, why do you think similar results are not "found" for the power of prayer?
I'm not defending prayer, but this is a joke. If there is a God, he just might be able to put two and two together and arrive at the same conclusion. I think there was an agenda here, because it wasn't a serious study, and it doesn't pass muster - the kind of a joke that might be repeated on liberal blogs, and passed on by easily led liberals because bashing those who believe in God happens the current fab fad.

Oh - a reverse prayer thread.

It's a scientific fact that recovering heart surgery patients have a better recovery when dogs are allowed to visit them.
So, if you consider that 5 percent of adults are dyslexic and 1 percent of them are agnostic then just maybe that one percent's belief that there may actualy be a dog could have some merit.
