bah, only a mother could love it.
-
Is this a troll? It being airbus? But it is a nice looking aircraft. But I prefer the F-22.
-
They sure are... and so is landscape :)
A340-600 length 75.30m
A380-800 length 72,75m
Then again... An-225 lenght is 84m
-
Commercial passenger jets rate the same as a city bus to me. They're both boring and crammed full of people.
-
chubby chaser
-
the a380 is the first airbus plane that doesn't look like a boeing to me. Thats refreshing, plus the mountains are beautiful.
-
Landscape is great, the airplanes are uggggggllllllllllllllllllllll lyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!
Plus they are just airliners, post a few shots like that of a B1 or B52 and you will have something.
I think only the most boring people on the planet could find airliners entertaining.
-
mountains are nice. The a380 is kinda cool for a flying bus. The a340 looks like a flying dildo.
-
Both are works of art and engineering marvels.
-
Great pics! Thanks for sharing! I sent some to my Illushin engineering friends in Moscow for immediated copy. ;)
-
i was looking at a link someone posted, and apparently someone sent them these pics - very recent, so thought i would share.
not a troll, i just thought that they were nice pictures.
-
The 380 looks well proportioned compared to the 340. Those 340s look like gliders when you see them from the front.:D
-
(http://www.fsaviation.com/~airvideo/a340/multimedia/gallery/ai/virgin.jpg)
looks better less stretched :D
-
Because it's a -400, not -600?:p
-
We'll be having one of those Virgin A340's (-300 though) over here in Finland in few weeks of time, operated by Finnair. It is rumoured to fly under Virgin's colours at first. They seem to be in a real hurry to get one for the summer.
It'll be rather different, because 4-engine jets are quite a rare sight over here. Triple jets are plentiful though.
Originally Finnair tried to get 8th MD-11, but they couldn't find a suitable plane and chose to have one more A343. They'll be operating with 4 A343's instead of originally planned 3. Supposedly A350's are to replace the 343's in the future.
Finnair's 7th MD-11 is an ER version, whereas the other 6 aren't. I think they received it from Brazil and I've heard that it wasn't in the best possible condition (I think the 8th MD-11 was abandoned due to bad condition of the other available planes).
-
nice pics Furb - beautiful a/c and scenery
-
 A340 is a really long plane
-
At first I thought they were screenshots from a videogame. I don't know if that talks bad about my visual skills or good about videogames.
-
I agree. nice picture.
airbus sucks hairy wazoo...
but that is a nice picture.
-
The 340 is a nice looking airplane. The 380 looks like too much like a Super Guppy.

As an Anti-Sub Tactical Air Controller..I think this one is beautiful..Does Airbus make a Maritime Patrol Aircraft?
Boeing 737-MMA. It ain't a P-3C, but if they insist on replacing the best Naval Aircraft ever built, then I guess it will do.

Boeing seems to be better:cool: :aok
-
The more I learn about the A380, and the more pictures I see of it like this, the more impressed I become with it. It is a beautiful flying machine.
-
agreed...she's a beauty!

Brits dont need one, thats for sure!

My personal preference, Airbuses are much more roomy than a Boeing and much more stable. I distinctly remember returning from LAX on a Boeing and being elbow-to-elbow with a dude while on an Airbus I was able to enjoy some luxury.

Didn't the Nimrods get sucked up in the bermuda triangle with the resta the Comets like, what; 40 years ago? Right after the Avengers.... (not the tv show.. you know, the one with the other nimrod in the bowler hat and diana rigg)

nothing beat the connie

Super Constellation
I know a guy - a 737 captain - who refers to the Convair 990 as "connie".
I've thought it was weird, but who am I to question the 10000 hour pro?
-
He tried to make the convair look pretty ;)
-
Furb - are the mountains the French Alps?
Very nice pics. I hope the A380 is as quiet as the A340. I guess it will be quieter for some carriers than others. ;)
-
a super connie landing at MIA, probably in the late '70s. nice photo straffo.

more probably the Pyrénée
-
Straffo, that Connie brings back memories! My first airline ride was in one, from Minneapolis to Ft. Lauderdale, FL in 1963.
I might add, that in 1964, while taking my dad to the airport with Mom for a flight, we watched as he got on board one of these I've posted below. According to my Dad, he said the moment I saw that aircraft with no propellors, I claimed that I was going to build those airplanes one day, this at age 4 1/2. ;) Ironically, the very first production part I manufactured for the Boeing Company at age 18 was for a 727 spares order.

Wow! My very first jet flight took me across the Pyrénée! :)
I've just seen a (copyrighted) photo of the A380 cockpit. LOL - it looks more like an Aces High gaming station! Both pilots have external view (tail fin mounted camera) and the joysticks look remarkably like one of my old Saitek twisty sticks. In front of the captain there is a keyboard - lol - and both pilots have a computer screen to the side of the main console angled at 45°. The display looks like my Windows 2000 display without the wallpaper.
I wonder if text and speech has to pass a profanity checker! :rofl
-
Love the Connie pic!
I've always felt that the Constellation was, and still remains, the single most elegant commercial aircraft designed to date.
While the moderns are certainly sculptural, they all look more and more like just another bus on wings. I suppose form does follow function, but I'm not seeing anything really notable these days.
The Connie still has lines worth noticing.
-
i wonder if they'll chat online with ATC?
jfkapp: speedbird 123, hold PVD VOR R-057, 6k, 4:00 legs, ETA 25:00
a380cp: d00d!! WTF!!?!l
a380lt: 1@m3, u r a g4y
jfkapp: roflmao, i pwn joo!!!!1!1!!1eleven

Connie is nice, but the Strato is number 1 for me ... the art-deco look second to none.

My father-in-law worked on those Stratos at Boeing Field. He also used to be a mechanic on the "Twin Mustang" in the Korean War.
-
He must had quite some fun time with the infamous pyromaniac 3350s and the corncobs :cry 28 cylinders of pain.
-
the article said they were the swiss alps.
i think the strato is smurfy.
the DC 4 was much better looking

submarines in mountains are the threat of the future. we are just planning ahead.
-
so that's where the french hide their subs!
-
well, if they put them at sea they are afraid they might find a war. better be safe than sorry.
besides, i wouldnt want to be a frenchman at sea with the royal navy about, it doesnt usually have a happy ending.

I should have been more specific: "Airframe Mechanic"

Really? Yah sure about that? Cause DeGrasse certainly seemed to abruptly end the limey attempt at colonial butt spanking over here a few hundred years back...

thats why i said usually instead of always. we usually annihilate them.

I have a 1972 photo of the first Boeing 747 in flight. The name of the plane is "Super Air Bus". Now you know where they got the name. ;) (I'll snap a picture of it off my office wall if I remember tonight)
-
except Airbus was founded in 1972 :)

Boeing was founded long before that, "Boeing B17 ":aok
-
Raider ever heard of Blériot ?
If you look at the "genealogic tree" of Airbus you will find Sud Aviation ,Sud Aviation was the result of the merge between SNCASO and SNCASE and SNCASO was the result of the merge of several entities and Blériot.
I strongly doubt that Boeing was founded before Blériot :D
Be more carefull next time ;)
-
Boeing founded in 1916, Bleriot joined SPAD as president in 1914
-
I just checked Blériot-Voisin was founded in 1905, now I'm off to bed it's too late
-
And now...the rest of the story
it ceased to exist in 1906

Correction to my post above, it was a picture from its first flight in 1969.

So now you know where Airbus stole the name from, a very successful company :)
-
Hm yes, because airliners aren't glorified buses that fly. Airbus. Wow, where could one even conceive of such a name?
:D

Well ... if you must know, we sold the Exocet to Argentina, and the associated counter measure to Great Britain. :p

ppssssssst. Frenchy.. it's 'they'. not 'we'.

"they" is for sissies.:)
