Can someone tell me why the Mossie is so slow in AH?? I thought I heard Mossies were one of the fastest planes in WWII. Infact, it was so fast that most German fighters were unable to intercept this beauty in photo recon.

Compare it only to 1942 planes, and what do you get? The fastest plane around.

also, the one we have is not only a slower version but it's performance is modelled on a mossie that was equipped with flame dampers for night time ops, which made sure there was no light from the exhaust, but also knocked 20 mph or so off the speed.
hoping that when they remodel the mossies we will get a newer variant:aok

The FB VI wasn't exactly the fastest one made, and as stated above we have the one that knocks around 20mph off its top speed.
From what I've read FB VI Mossies that could carry rockets weren't delivered with flame dampers, only the batch previous to them that couldn't carry rockets.
Few of us kicked around what would be nice on the remodel -
B IV - We weren't sure about. No use in the MA, prob only scenarios.
FB VI - But minus the flame dampers, with Merlin 25's.
One of the NF series. Yup they were NF (Night fighters), but they did do daylight raids.

Why not a B.XVI? It was quite a bit faster which might make it more attractive in the MA.

Fly it to its strengths, just like any other a/c.
Btw, it isnt slow, below 10k it as fast or faster than many fighters. It does 360 TAS at 7-8k. Thats not bad at all. Turns very well and has great firepower, has combat flaps at @ 160 mph.
Its not for high alt work (above 15k), and its not going to defeat a single engined 1945 uber ride 1 vs 1 unless you get an advantage, but its a perfectly good a/c. It was never employed as a day fighter for air superiority work, so don't judge it harshly on a role it was never designed for. It was mainly a fighter-bomber and night fighter.
Many under estimate it in the MA. Some get very PO'd when you kill them in it too ;). I find it one of the funner rides actually.

Was going to add, the worst thing to do with a Mossie is load it for some 4 hr mission with 100 gas.
You dont need the extra 1000 lbs of weight. Under no circumstances should you roll a Mossie for MA combat with more than 50 gas internal. You will likely be going 20 miles max, and dogfighting below 8k. You dont need an endurance more than 35 minutes. If you are going on some super long range mission to go bomb something, fine and dandy, but not for a straight dogfight mission.
I find 25 gas and DTs the best load, and I dump my 303 ammo after I roll, and keep 600 rpg for the 20mm.
A thermos of tea is preffered, but not required.

The co-pilot side is furnished with a kettle and a mini-bar. Nothing like a good Earl Gray on the climb out and a glass of Brandy for the RTB.
Who said the co-pilot isn't useful?
