April 4 (Bloomberg) -- Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, dogged by a federal corruption scandal that has drawn in two former aides, will announce today that he will resign the seat he has held in Congress for nearly 11 terms and won't seek re-election
One down, 200 to go.

Excellent tactic. The Republicans just took some steam out of the democratic partys planned ad attacks. With Delay out of the picture, they'll have to come up with another plan of attack.

Good point. We can only hope that Jack Abramoff's files provide more evidence, on both sides of the aisle.

You mean they might actually have to come up with an actual issue and run on it? That's not fair they'll get creamed!

I'm fairly certain that there is something about Delay that we don't know and probably won't be allowed to know.
Something stinks.

Or it could be that he has no chance of winning as his name has been through the mud one to many times.
Eliminate the "culture of corruption" battle cry of the dems and all they are left with is "Bush Sucks". And we all know how well that has worked for them so far.

Associated Press - Breaking News:
04/04/06
The GOP expressed what several insiders are characterizing as "a giddy elation" over the success of the latest Republican salvo, dubbed 'Operation Excellent Tactic.'
"Today marked the culmination of several years of planning," said one source who refused to go on the record. "DeLay?" he asked, "You've got to be kidding me. Before we lured that yokel up here to the Hill, he spent his nights dreaming up new and better ways to kill bugs. Bugs!"
"He was never one of us."
"Corrupt Republicans?" echoed another, "That's the beauty of this whole plan," adding, "What corrupt Republicans? Who? Where? Tom DeLay isn't running for Congress, so tell me, where are these corrupt Republicans? See?!"
Democrats couldn't mask their confusion, hastily calling a closed door meeting to prepare their response to today's developments. "Yesterday we had widespread Republican corruption, and today we awoke to find out that we don't. Frankly, we're at a loss."
A source who would only be identified as a Hill staffer said "Listen to me, Republican Duke Cunningham? You guessed it. All part of 'Operation Excellent Tactic.'
Earlier this year Cunningham plead guilty to federal charges of conspiracy to commit bribery, mail fraud, wire fraud, and tax evasion.
Said the staffer, "The Duke devoted his life to defending this country, and has shown that same strength of character by sacrificing his political career by at first giving, then, through his resignation, taking away a Democratic campaign issue.
"He was a true patriot" said the staffer, who behind tears promptly threw up his left hand in salute, then his right hand, then, flustered, rose both hands in unison to his forehead in what he described as "a Double Freedom salute."
Perhaps one of the most visible components of 'Operation Excellent Tactic' occurred when I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby Jr. resigned as Vice President Cheney's Chief of Staff in October, under indictment for disclosing the identity of a CIA operative during wartime.
"We were looking for a way to give Democrats something to be angry about, and this seemed like as good an idea as any," said one source who refused to be identified. "We needed to give Democrats a campaign issue, then take it away."
There have since been dozens of examples of 'Operation Excellent Tactic' emerging from the Republican party. Some garnering national attention, and some hovering just under the radar. "It's all high-fives around here. It's worked beyond our wildest dreams. We've achieved what we patriotly dub 'Corruption Saturation Whack-A-Mole,' in that once our corruption simmers up to the surface, BLAMMO, the point man resigns, and voila, there is no more corruption. It's hard to imagine the fluster this has caused the Liberals."
Despite the devastating body blows that the rampant Republican corruption has had on the Democrats, Republicans show no signs of letting up. Nothing exemplifies this better than Jack Abramoff.
Jack Abramoff looms as a powerful and relentless albatross that hangs around the necks of any Democratic hopeful who dares make an issue out of Republican corruption.
One high ranking Democrat, visibly shaken, said, "Jack is as crooked as they come, K street is the very epitome of the abuse of power, and if we Democrats don't play our cards right, we are in for a serious beating in '06."
Everyone agrees that this is shaping up to be a very interesting election year. Will Democrats continue to take the 'Operation Excellent Tactic' bait? How many Democrats will lose their nerve - and votes - come the election by calling out corrupt Republicans who calculatedly resign and disappear into pedestrian, civilian, or penitentiary life, leaving Democrats in a continued state of disarray?
"There is a huge and untapped demographic out there. Forget about soccer moms. That's so nineties. Now? It's about drastically overweight middle-aged divorced women who share a unique bond with convicts."
"In '04 we won over the church. In '06 it's all about the mystique surrounding the latest Republican prison tattoos."

Why do you only come out of hiding when there's republican blood in the water Nash?
-
Because he likes to see how republicans at this board A) defends their crooked politicians and B) attacks against anyone dissing republican and C) pull the anti-American card and play saint?
-
That was good Nash! :rofl
Incidently, the republicans will have to try harder to attain the cockroach level that the previous democrat administration had in the 90's.

Rip, could you list the indictments and convictions of the Reagan and Nixon administrations. too? You know...for contrast.;)

Rip they wont listen. There's republican blood in the water and the press and them are circling like sharks. Heck even Sandman doesn't want to beleive that this is all there is to it. They WANT to beleive in the "culture of corruption" from the republicans because they is what basket they are putting ALL of their collective eggs in this election. They want to believe it so bad that meaningless things like facts shouldn't get in the way. They WANT to beleive it so bad so they use semantics like "no democrat ever took a dime of abromoff money" when we all know that plenty of them took his "clients" money.
They want to beleive.
There is no way in the world that their idelas and policies are just plain bad
There is no way in the world that they cannot get it together as a party and come out with a unified platform.
There is no way in the world that moderate rights and middles won't go along with their extreme leftist leadership that spouts off at the mouth every chance they get.
There is no way in the world that they need an actual message to entice voters.
All they need to do is go along with "culture of corruption" wich could be spun many ways to "Bush is bad" and they SHOULD just win hands down.....right?????

On the lighter side, Delay says he intends to combat corruption in the private sector :rofl

I don't think I attributed the 200 crooks in congress to any one party. Are you claiming they're all republicans?

anyone that compares ripsnort to cabby, or mg for that matter, is clearly on the dark side of the moon. If rip is guilty of anything, it is consistency of views expressed. rip is consistent and no doubt believes in the conservative philosophy.
Even comparing cabby to mg does a great disservice to cabby (who aside from his unabashed pandering to wildbill has a solid set of conservative political beliefs).

From the Daily Kos, not exactly a "right wing blog"
"By the end of his term, 138 Reagan administration officials had been convicted, had been indicted, or had been the subject of official investigations for official misconduct and/or criminal violations.

Oh, and it doesn't really matter becuase this gotcha game will go on no matter who is in power. The Delay thing will only empower corrupt prosecutors to do what Ronny Earl had done to many of his political enemies in Texas.

In the 18yrs since the end of his term, almost 200 more Reagan cronies have been indicted. Notice you're comparing apples and oranges. Also, the entire paragraph reads:
"By the end of his term, 138 Reagan administration officials had been convicted, had been indicted, or had been the subject of official investigations for official misconduct and/or criminal violations. In terms of number of officials involved, the record of his administration was the worst ever."
Worse even than Nixon. I'll bet aWol won't settle for second place though.

Even worse is you are ONLY counting aleged republicans in this number. You are also trying to paint a picture that they are ALL like that. I'd be interested to see some Kos quotes on democrat incidtments......I bet no one on his site cares enough to post them. It's all about Bush. Keep with it dems, it's working wonders! :aok
