Someone was in the arena tonight stating the plug had been pulled on WWIIOnline. Is this true? Anyone able to confirm this?

was missile and when asked didnt say anything as for a source. in fact didnt say anything at all after the first statement.
-
If it ends up being true there will be a lot of flaming over on that wwiionline bbs...
I was in the arena when Missle said that too. Others seemed to confirm it.
I can't find any info though one way or the other.

It doesn't seem like anything people should get worked up over.
Either its erroneous information or another revolutionary game ran into a few snags along the way. Either way, it can wait until something a tad bit more official is announced.

Some time ago one of The Rats stated that everyone else that signed up for closed beta would be playing by the end of Jan. Since it is now Feb 1, and nothing has been posted on the "Sewer News" since Jan 5th some people with nothing better to do are freaking out and starting rumors.
I think that since we are so spoiled with the great communications that we have with HTC, that the relative "lack" of communication that The Rats provide promotes this sort of thing.

Maybe they are holding back to release after WBIII and AW4 to undercut them hehee (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

New update from The Rats.

Things have been extremely quiet lately from the developers and in a vacumn all sorts of rumours and speculation will gather to fill the emptiness.

Not trying to be a rumor monger, just wanted to get the straight scoop. None of the mags had anything up to that effect, neither did the cornered rat bbs. Just checking to see if it was legit. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Hehe hehe I really like this statement(2nd reply) from that link provided...
"Yes great speech, This game is like a fine Wine. It gets better with age!
Ammodog"
What in the hell are you on there buddy? What game? You have something that no one else does? How's it getting better with time? As far as I can tell you are either too doped up on weed or too tripped out on acid to really be allowed to post.
I'd really like to see this game "getting better with age".....
I think there's a word for people like that in any industry...

The WW2OL community amuses me because they trumpet how good their game is, and how it's better than anything else.....
Even though it doesn't actually exist yet.
Actually, as good as the concept is, I will never play that game. Why?
Pay for a boxed game.
Pay for playing the game.
Pay for updates to the game.
Possibly more charges not yet announced.
The people running the show over there seem to be becomming less worried about the actual game--and less concerned with their customers (no news updates, etc)--but more and more concerned with how much money they can suck out of it.
HTC is a much better company in that regard.

Well. It will be interesting to see when it comes out,,,some day (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif) I didn't mean to imply Kieren you were rumour mongering. I oversaw the same conversation last night and it too caught my attention.
But I do lol a bit at those who think WWII Online will be online Nirvana with high realism and "historical" accuracy (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
Why? Well if current community "issue" on gameplay, being lobbed back and forth here in the AH "WAR" player versus The Furballer debate, could be used a litmus test then I would bet to say that WWII Online will have an amazingly high super-concentrated amount of pure squeakiness.
Alot of Napoleons, alot of generals and generally ALOT of people who just don't think others are playing they way they should be. And there won't be the furball "scape goat" either (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

I just saw a movie recorded from the beta stage. It was a tank fight.. Nice tank formation inside a cool looking city / terrain. Even foot patrol patrolling around the area (I wonder who will volunteer for few hours of guard duty. LOL)
Then the krauts attacked. There was a tank battle.. The sounds did impress me. But during battle the tank crew sprayed endlessly with their heavy MG, mostly on enemy tanks. They shot their main cannon repeatedly from maybe 500 yards to the enemy resulting in direct hits. ..
.. What happened, a big flash, projectile spinning away from the side of the tank after a flash? A big kaboom while the turret flies off the tank from direct hit? NO..
Just small puff sprites. Was like they were fighting with softballs.. Every tank could resist at least 10 direct shell hits from main cannon.. And the gunners kept hitting the tanks with MG like it mattered (so I assume it does due to some very primitive damage modeling.)
If what I analysed from that film is correct, and if the aerial part will be made with similar 'precision' .. well.. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
One thing you have to give to them anyway.. And that is: The idea itself is friggin awesome! I for one will check it out for sure. But I'm not holding my breath just yet (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
-
MrSid, you can kill drivers or other crewman in the tanks with MGs if they have their driving slits or other ports open. That's all I'm saying (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
-
now that I think of it you NEVER see damage inflicted in ANY of their videos, you see a flaming spitfire..but you never see it get hit, you see that tank battles but see no damage to ANYTHING, kinda odd i think. they show this spitfire flying around with flames peeling off of it but you never see it crash...something smells (not the burnt spit either)
-
They probably didn't HAVE a damage model when the Spitfire film was made, or made the film outside the actual game engine.
In fact I am pretty sure several of their films were made outside the game engine.

What really caused a stir is when the Rats stated that squad missions will not accrue rank points. I thought it made sense, personally, but boy did some people make a fuss.

Actually, as good as the concept is, I will never play that game.
Hmm, there IS a God, after all (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Raub I hate you (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) Not really, it's just extreme jealousy. Anyways you may want to zip your lip (that's advice, not an 'order')

Guys,
I can quash this rumor right here and now.
The game is NOT cancelled, and development is going ahead full force. To quote an unnamed source deep in the sewers when I brought this topic forward "are they on crack!?".
A couple other notes to things on this topic:
On the Phase IV video:
1) Visible damage isn't in the game yet except in very limited amounts. Bullet holes in particular are NOT in yet.... but they ARE in the next phase, due any time now.
2) Hit sprites are largely placeholders at this point. The MG sprites are the most finished, and even they are not fully finished.
3) Sounds are about 30% complete in phase IV (the video you saw). Phase V includes individualized sounds (instead of the largely generic ones now) and also adds ambient sounds, bullets whizzing by, and a bunch of new stuff.
4) The Infantry layer will be a lot more fleshed out in the new phase.
In other words....stay tuned.
