Remember Battle of the Bulge movie with Robert Shaw? Well if you ever wanted to know what the song that his new Officers were singing, here it is. It was originally adapted from an old German sailor's song. A Lt, in the Panzer corps changed the lyrics to fit them. It became such a hit with the tankers, that the Nazi party adopted it as an official Army march in the Panzer corps.
Panzerleid Nr 9
Ob's stuermt oder scheidt,
Ob die sonne uns lacht,
Der tag gluehend heiss,
Ob die eiskalt die nacht,
Verstaubt sind die gesichter,
Doch froh ist unser Sinn,
Ja unser Sinn,
Es braust,unser Panzer,
In sturmwind dahin.
Translation-roughly
In storm or in snow,
Or if the sun smiles on us,
The day may glow hot,
Or in the ice cold of night,
Our faces are grimy but our spirits are high,
Yes our spirits are high.
It roars, our Panzer, into the assault.
