Sounds very nice. Wouldn't it be great if we could have terrain "skins" like AW had? Imagine Karelia in autumn!

The default skin can be built in the terrain, the rest of the skins will be the same as in every other arena. Most of the terrains don't have built-in skins (Karelia being the exception).

As Panzzer said, we can (and do) change the default skin for certain planes... and the terrain download size costs about 2 extra megs per plane! :)

Sorry, I guess I didn't make my daydreaming very clear. In AW, you could get different skins just for terrains (separately from plane skins), so that each player could change how an arena looked to him simply by choosing (for example) default, desert, winter etc., just like choosing a plane skin.

Of course, the terrains were rather "primitive" in the sense that the trees were very sparse and crappy looking, so it made those skins much easier to do in AW than they would be in AH. Probably AH also uses different methods for building terrains than were used by AW, so that would complicate matters a whole lot.

But I can dream, can't I? It will be so kewl to see a winter terrain in the Allies vs Axis. I plan to die in there all next week.

:aok

Ah, I get what you mean now... yeah, that would be too cool. I believe we asked for that long ago, but I don't think it's a practical option for HTC... not with the way their terrains are constructed.

FWIW, it's a simple enough thing to convert an existing terrain... that's all this "new" Rhine2 is; just the old Rhine with winter textures replacing the default ones. We'll probably do the same for some other maps, Like France or BoB.

That would be so kewl. I seem to remember when karelia first came out that the trees were in autumn foliage. Am I wrong? I know that asw made a rather large terrain for the CT (northern Europe?) which had varied environments: high valleys had snow and, at lower alts, the valleys and plains became lush green. The variety added a lot to the game. Anyway, I am glad to hear that such additions are being made. The same shade of green in all arenas at all times is a bit boring.

The Rhine map was one of ASW's maps as well.

Who modified it to winter terrain?

I concur with egler the G6 might be added in order that every axis won't be playing the ack running game.

Map feedback.

first of all its too grey... not the sky but the land... I know winter can be really grey.. ask me I live in gothenburg sweden the grey capital...

Still the land is too grey and the country side is tooo snow filled. Its so snow heavy that it looks more like northen sweden or finland in winter then europe.

Tex... what is the time of day in the arena? I saw the same grey stuff in FSO, but figured it was the angle of the sun. Trust me, it was white snow when I sent it in.

As for the amount... well, that's what was requested of me. This texture set was rushed out to make it in time for FSO, but we will be making better and more varied textures soon enough.

Thanks for the feedback!

I think it looks great. Flying  there makes you feel cold. Even in Texas.
Well Done Dux !:aok

Um, I have the clock set to run from 6 hrs to 18 hrs, maybe it wouldn't look as grey if I set the day to start later and end sooner - something like 8-16 maybe.

I don't think that's the problem, Panzzer... I've been looking at posted screenshots from FSO (the filmviewer doesn't show arena settings, so sky is blue and time is noontime) and those are all grey also. I'm looking into it further...
