I had a glimmer of hope with the WB3 demo at the Con and the 100% lethality test and the rumours of flat rate, so I kept it going at the minimum level. But WB3 is still a long ways off, realistic lethality ain't happening, and the flat rate is too little too late. So I pulled the plug. Don't miss it at all any more. Just wish a few old squaddies would come to their senses or get a gaming computer.

Never played WB online.
100% lethality? That's sounds a bit drastic - what the hell is it?
-
Due to CPU limitations(?), WarBirds only models half the ammo load and half the rate of fire of the real guns. I think the idea was that they would make each "bullet" bigger in diameter and give it more destructive power to compensate.
But after all of the original developers left and the suits hired a new technical guy, he figured out what the correct destructive power per round should be, then arbitrarily decided the Main Arena would only use 60% of that power.
After suffering with neutered guns for a long time, the community finally convinced iEN to try a 100% lethality test arena. The player response was resoundingly positive, but the test arena was closed and the Main Arena remains at the old lethality level.

I'm still a firm believer that alot won't come over due to the following:
A) They'd be nobody's over here for awhile (except within their squad), recognition is an important aspect in alot of folks, makes them feel 'special'...the thought of being a 'nobody' makes them insecure.
B)They would be a dweeb for a spell since the learning curve is heightened in AH, again, insecurity, afraid of change...
C)CPU's can't handle 'new' graphics.
D)They are too embedded in WB's either via Webpages that would need to be updated, or Training status, CO of a squad, etc.
One thing man in general fears most is the unknown, thus his fear of "Change".

Well, there IS a place with a realistic gunnery in WB...

I agree with you funked, I wish all my 'ol WB's buds would come over to this game. I sure do miss flying with all those fellas.
-
Borroda, talking about that on HT's own BBS is a little tasteless, don't ya think?
-
Who's talking?
I never give any connecting instructions in public.
BTW, the trouble started when old ICI team left WB development...
As for the gunnery - HotSeat has a very strange view on how the weapons work. The iEN gunnery is something like science-fiction. AP/HE 20mm ammo! what a nonsence! (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Ever checked AH's Hispano's ammo? (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/rolleyes.gif)

Some planes were extremely deadly in WB - mostly heavy-weapon snapshot planes. So the lethality was reduced to compensate for that. Then people found out that those planes were so deadly because most people flying them used EZ mode which supposedly should not have made flying/shooting easier, but did so.
Apparently, now that EZ mode is out and the lethality is still left the same, the snapshot planes now suffer terribly.

If i can knock down 5 USN planes in one hop in an A6M-5 in WB's, how much "more realistic/lethal" should WB's gunnery be?? Do you have some "inside info" on when WBIII will be released, Funked???
I like HS's ideas about gunnery/damage modeling. You don't. You like HT's gunnery/damage model. I don't. So what?
Boroda: "Science Fiction"??? Gimmie a break. I reckon your game has "Hack Fiction" in more places than just the gunnery model.
Rip: Your theory is nonsense.

Cabby I thought you crawled back under your rock? It sure was nice not seeing your name or that of HS around this board for so long. How bout go away again (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Wouldn't play it for $4.95/mo...

To an outside observer who doesn't play either AH or WB's online (currently):
I think the only reason WB's is moving to a flat-rate is fear. It sure as heck isn't for want of more customers. I wanted to be able to play WB's since about 1995 but never could afford the massive charge--WB's is made for rich people, not cash-strapped college students (high school at the time).
Suddenly, a game which feels a lot like an updated version of WB's hits the market--for a flat rate. Over a year later, that new game is doing perfectly fine, and is costing WB's business in two ways--
1) Some people flat-out cancelled their account.
2) Other people divide time between games, which equates into lost revenue for a hourly plan.
On top of that, ANOTHER WW2 game is about to be released (WW2OL), which will also be flat-rate. AND, furthermore, a completely new version of "the ancient one" is finally in the works with an interim version about to be released.
WarBirds had no choice but to go flat-rate. Hourly charges for online flight sims are going the way of the Dodo bird. As for their specific price....charging 25 bucks a month looks like a probverbial "middle finger" to Aces High.
No, I am not part of the "anti-WarBirds" crowd. I am just saying what their change of price plan looks like to me.

Cabby,
At this point, I wouldn't play WB if you paid me.

I would... But I'm expensive (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif) (Hey - someone's gotta do it, right?).

That's just about exaclty what I think J_A_B.
And RAM. Have you ever checked out the Hispano ammo? I'll have to create a sig file that includes Pyro's picture of the various ordinance because too many people conveniently turn a blind eye to the significant difference the Hispano had over the Axis 20mm.

Yep Westy it's like comparing 7.62mm NATO to .30 Carbine. The MG 151/20 was a nice package in terms of firepower for its size and weight. But compared to the Hispano it fired a dinky round at a low velocity.
