Title: Navy Alum.
Post by: BlueJ1 on April 06, 2006, 08:22:13 PM
This was inspired by Zorch. (Your PM's are turned off)

Great Lakes does not have "Service Week" anymore. It is now called "Terrorism Week". The mess halls are now catered. So food is no longer made by the recruits. I do not know what "Terrorism week" but as soon as I hear soem more information I'll pass it on. I was looking forward to service week. As a E-3 I was looking forward to do something there.

That's too bad. Service week was the best part of boot camp. Of course, I worked grounds division during March, when there were no lawns to be mowed. I don't miss Great Mistakes though, that's for sure.

I was part of the "House Crew" I spent tjhe whole week stripping and waxing the floor of our compartment. I also painted our Company's Flag (I think they call them Divisions now)

It sucked. I was at Great Lakes also. I was in the number one skullery. First to open and last to close. We'd get off work at eight or nine and be up again at three. Felt like the longest week of my life.

Laundry P.O. here.  I stayed in the barracks too.  I'd get the clean laundry with a detail and then crash on the bags and get some shut-eye.  I got caught by our C.C.  He looked at me and I was scared *****less.  He said, "Don't get caught." and left.  I never did get caught.

Anyone ever find that dagum gig line??  Hehehe...

I got to spend service week at the pool because I was certified diver with lots of logged hours prior to joining the Navy boot camp.  It was fun, we vacuumed the pool in the morning and hung out all day after that.
