Title: Can anyone recommend a good jet sim?
Post by: Sindon on April 07, 2006, 02:44:36 AM
Appreciate any advice you guys may have on a decent jet simulator, looking around it seems Falcon 4.0 or Lock-On are the choices.  Which is best?

Looking for some eye candy (have a decent rig) and maybe multi-player capability.

Cheers.

The latest lock-on update uses the starforce copy protection scheme that screws up the device drivers for your cdrom/dvd drives, so I would avoid that at all costs.  The early versions of lock-on do not use starforce but just on general princple I won't buy or recommend ANY product from any company that uses starforce.

That leaves you with Falcon, which IMHO is pretty good too.

The gayest thing about starforce is that it silently installs with many game demos as well. That's how I got SF on my computer the first time

Later that old version conflicted with SH3 installation and bluescreened my computer on start. :aok

SH3 was the first and last SF game that I'll buy.

So long as Starforce is out there ****ing**** up, Falcon 4 Allied Force is the only game in town. But the origional Lock On has no Starforce - keep that in mind.

Two questions....ok 3

How do you know which games have Star force?
How do you go about finding out if its on your machine?
Once you do find you have it on your machine. How do you get rid of it?

I have no doubts of the claims made here against Starforce.

The Makers of Starforce apparently do though.

And they seem to feel quite confident (arrogant) about it too

F4:AF is pretty good, the patches went a long way to improving it. I play it when I can. You have to be ready to read a 700 page manual though if you want to play with full realism.

Funny you mention that hang. Bororda and about 6 other guys have infected systems they are going to bring over to SF HQ with video cameras. Will keep you advised.

Very fun, but gets old fairly quickly, mods are plentiful though.

Another nod to Falcon 4 Allied Force

Website: http://www.lead-pursuit.com/ (http://www.lead-pursuit.com/)

Yea, takes a bit to fly...but if you were patient enough to learn Aces High, then you'll master Falcon.

Flying is the easy part, the various weapon systems and aerial refueling take some finesse.

Straffo that only disables the function of starforce, doesn't get rid of the problem.
