Title: Bottleneck GF FX9950 or AMD 2800XP
Post by: Stone on April 08, 2006, 10:50:06 AM
Hi,

Finaly got my OLD PC to work again. Grrr spending over 100$ to get back to square one.

Now I wonder, if I would like to get more frames in AH2, where is my botle neck?

I think I get around 40 FPS (3x-70), hard to say as it seems to wary alot.

- GeFroce FX 9950 ultra (or GF 9500 ultra)
- AMD 2800XP Barton  A2
- 2 * 256 DDR-SDRAM PC3200 (200 MHz)  -  [DDR-400]

There is room for one more memory module on the MOBO.

So if I would like to get more frames, should I get a faster processor and / or faster video card ?

Edit. Just noticed that if there is a lot of planes, my frames drop below 20.

is it a FX 5900 or 5950 ?  never heard of a 9500 . If its a 5900ultra , id say its a really close match for the cpu , BUT if i had to guess i would say the cpu is the bottleneck.

If you can overclock the video card , you should do some tests in AH with it overclocked , and then at stock speed . If you see no improvement , your cpu limited , if you get better FPS overclocked , you GPU limited
