Title: STOLEN!!!!! Racecar and trailer
Post by: Captain Virgil Hilts on April 10, 2006, 08:32:09 AM
This ain't about politics or airplanes. But these guys are racers, they are friends of mine, and they are customers of mine. The racecar and trailer is valued at over $150K, and there is a reward.

Attention !!!! Melvin Warf and Jack Huff's 1966 Corvette Stingray was stolen last night from their shop. They were still loaded from the Indy points meet and yes even during the tornados and storms someone cut the locks from an 8' fence and the lock on the trailer . The car is candy apple red ,it has a 327 motor with a 4 speed transmission. And if you know Melvin it has the best money can buy parts. The trailer is a 2004 Storm / white 28' chrome wheels. Everyone who runs Super Stock knows this car his perment number is on the car 2016.

The wittness said it was a BROWN & SILVER truck with a stripe down the side. If you see this truck pulling this trailer call the police.

THANKS
Melvin Warf (615) 268-3921
Jack Huff (615) 497-5315

You can see pictures of this car by going to: www.autoimagery.com (http://www.autoimagery.com)
in the "driver search" box, type in Melvin or Jack's name, and you will be taken to pictures of the car.

Remember, this car represents a lifetime of love and labor to these guys, just like anything precious to anyone else.

If you see it, feel free to PM or email me and I'll pass it along. You find this car and trailer, and help see it is recovered and the theives prosecuted and I'll buy you a year of AH myself. It means that much to me.

Sad.  Same thing happened here in Sept.  Stole the truck, race car, and the trailer.

Dang that sucks.. seems theifs are now getting smarter and steeling race cars. Since there are no VIN numbers they really can not be traced very well. Unless the rolling tub chasis has a bild number scored into it. But even those can be cut out.

Theres been a couple of spec miatas stole last year.. Its a darn shame really to have any property stolen.

That's awful to hear Virgil.  I live down in the Smyrna area.  A friend of mine is a mechanic and runs in the racing crowd so I'll take this down to him to see if he may know anything.  I'll keep a look out myself too.

They had the right idea back when they hung horse theives.

The worst part is knowing the condition the car will likely be in if the guy gets it back at all.

Wow, followed your link and found the pics of the car.  I hope your friends get the chance to make such a beautiful machine do many a wheel-stand down the road.  Such a shame. =(

Actually, a Super Stock car like Jack and Melvin's Corvette, has most of the original car still there. You can put wheel tubs in it, and back half the car. But the rest of the car has to stay stock except for the roll cage. It has to be a REAL car, and not a hand fabbed custom piece. This one still has the VIN number and all of that. I think it is a Gary Jennings car, he's one of the best Super Stock builders around, and a friend of mine.

The thing is, they can't sell the whole car, and they can't race it. It is way too well known, and the VIN number is still on the car. It will likely be hulled out and scrapped. The trailer was full of spares, including another engine and transmission, plus it had the computer and weather station in it. If it isn't found and recovered soon, it'll be gone forever, a tragedy in many ways.

Yeah, I'm about ten miles from you, outside of Murfreesboro, in Walter Hill. I figure this thing was out of state by Sunday, and it'll be in piece by the end of the week if it isn't recovered before then. Somebody had to know how to get to it and what it was.
