Title: Text reader software
Post by: Angus on April 11, 2006, 03:55:21 AM
I am looking for software that can "read" text that you have scan thereby converting it to a textfile of some sort, - txt for instance. Is there anything free on the net of that sort?
I am sure I posted this before, but it brought no results. Well it's been some years since then, so I'll ask again.
Just can't remember what the thing was called. I remember downloading some but they were no good. My scanner also has a feature like this, but no good either.
Anyway, if anyone know's, I'd be grateful. And that means I can post more extractions from books, - typing gets tedious....:D

OCR - Optical Character Recognition software.

My HP all in one came with some so I can't recommend a particular title.  I know Office Depot and stores like that have OCR software but since you're such a cheap bastage I'll leave it up to the others to do your bird-dogging.

:aok

Omnipage from scansoft works well.
IRIS makes OCR soft too.

I tried several OCR programms, and so far this is much better then anything else. Yes, they are Russians, and they make damn good software.

I've been there several times & can tell you some probably useless advice about going to Keflavic/Rekyavic.
If you're ugly, wear a bag over your head.
They don't need to let you in if they don't feel like it & an ugly mug won't help your case.
Otherwise, wear prophilactics.

Hey Mipoikel!
Are you taking a Weekend holiday?
We're into tourism, so I'd be happy to give you tips if you need.
(We have a B & B in the countryside, look at http://www.gardsauki.is)
Anyway, recommend some tours and pubcrawling in Reykjavik.
Give me a ping at info@gardsauki.is
Regards
Angus
