I live near Seattle, too (Redmond).
So far, I've met in person Roscoroo and Newman. So Silat and Jinx live near Seattle.
OOZ662 and Bear76, you guys do as well? What cities?
The Museum of Flight in Seattle is pretty good -- especially the Personal Courage Wing, which has several WWII fighters in it (Bf 109E, Spit IX, P-40N, Ki 43-IIb, P-38L, F4F-3, FG-1D, P-47D, Yak-9U, P-51D).
4th of July weekend (actually 6/30/2006 to 7/5/2006), the Museum of Flight has the Collings Foundation B-17 and B-24 available for looking around inside, and you can buy flights on them for $425 per 30-minute ride.

Seattle-area folks, maybe we can meet up at the Museum of Flight some day. As long as there aren't dozens of you, I hereby offer to buy you guys admission and dinner after the museum visit. It would be fun to meet the Aces High pilots in the area.
-
Also, Seattle-area folks, here is an event that the Museum of Flight you might be very interested in:

YO
<----SEATTLE. IGSHILL, Gball and others live in the area as well. I voluteer to be at the free stuff gathering :)
And dont know if you all know it or not, but at Paine Field in Mukilteo there are two awesome places to check out. First is the BMoF restoration center that has several pojects going on all the time. Its free to walk through. Last I was there they had a wildcat, being restored, one of those old "bannana" choppers, and a couple of civil aircraft in the works. They also had a "Vampire" sitting in pieces.
The second is the Me 262 project. If I recall correctly the first one to be finished was Paul Allens' baby. I heard the second was finished recently and there were three others for sale. YOURS TRULY was working next to the runway when they test flew the first. :D IT WAS THE SHIZNIT!
I'd love to get together with anyone in the area sometime.

Silat I thought you parted your hair on the LEFT side.

I live near Seattle also (Buckley). I used to work just down the street from that Museum at Boeings Plant II. I still work for Boeing only in another location. I usually stop in once a year because they are constantly adding stuff there. A get together would be great if I'm not working that weekend.

Excellent. My weekends are booked until Stalin's Fourth scenario is done (last frame is April 22nd weekend). I'll start planning it after that and keep everyone posted as we firm up the plans, figure out which weekend works for folks, etc.
-
Actually my Union (SPEEA) is sponsoring a free visit to the Museum of Flight on April 22nd for all it's members. But as I posted earlier who knows I may have to work that weekend as we are puting in a lot of overtime.

Geez, didn't realize there were so many in the Seattle area. And Bear76 is around here too. I gotta leave! :)
I'm in Renton area and used to work for Boeing. Loved to use their 737 and 747 flight sims on off hours at night. That was FUN!
Anyway, given the right day, etc. I'm in!
P.S. I'm big and eat alot so you may want to re-think the paying for dinner part. LOL

OK, folks. It's been a while since I posted here, but the quarter is done (things are usually very busy at work going into the end of a quarter). Here's the plan: a get together at the Museum of Flight in Seattle on July 15th.
For the first 10 people who let me know they are going to be there, I'll buy you a ticket in and dinner afterwards. (I assume Newman and Roscoroo will be two to the 10 already -- you two guys need to be there to fully represent the Scenario team! :)
July 15th is a good day at the Museum of Flight as, in addition to us being able to see all the excellent WWII fighters, we can attend a panel presentation "Aces Over North Africa", starting at 2:00 pm, with P-38 ace James Edwards (19 kills), P-38 ace Herbert Ross (7 kills), and F6F ace Hamilton McWorter (flew F4F's over Casablanca in North Africa invasion, then flew F6F's in Pacific, finished the war with 12 kills, was first Hellcat ace of Pacific theater, and first carrier pilot to get 10 kills).
Send me e-mail if you are going to make it, and give me your phone number and real-life name in case I need to contact you (and for setting things up for admission to the museum).
I'll post details on how we'll work this a little later (how and when we'll meet up, etc.).
Here's the URL for the museum: http://www.museumofflight.org/
My e-mail address is brooke at electraforge.com.

Hell with the others. Im the better date:)
-
Sure, Newman. We'll see you both there.
I'll post more details in a day or two on when and how we'll all meet up.
-
OK, here's the plan.
I'm going to check with the museum staff to see if I can have tickets waiting for you guys at the admissions desk so that we don't have all wait there for everyone to show. I'll post more info here after I check with them.
Looks like we'll have:
me
Blue Baron
Newman
Newman, Jr.
Silat
Rabbidrabbit
I'll post more details here by tomorrow night.
-
Damn Yucca, I thought you were at least 40 years old you Douch bag.
-
Here's the plan.
I will show up at the Museum of Flight at 11:30 am, tomorrow, Saturday, and put admission tickets for folks at the admissions desk. When you show up, go to the admission desk and tell them that a member has left tickets for you there. I'll leave tickets under the following names:
Blue Baron (Johnathon Baron)
Newman (Robin Green)
Newman, Jr. (and son)
Silat (Rick Lewis)
Rabbidrabbit
We can cruise around the museum for a couple hours, then at about 1:30-2:00 pm, I'll be getting a seat for the panel discussion by the fighter pilots. You guys can attend that, or cruise around the museum more. After the panel discussion, there will likely be an book signing opportunity, which I'd like to get in on.
Then we'll go to a nearby restaurant, and I'll buy everyone dinner and beer (well, except for Newman, Jr., who gets single-malt scotch).
In case you need to reach me, my cell phone number is 425-443-3141.
The URL for the Museum of Flight (for directions) is here:
http://www.museumofflight.org/
See you all there tomorrow!
-
Hey Brooke, I think Newman Jr. will be staying home. Regardless, I'll pay his way so don't worry about his ticket.
SALUTE!
Newman
-
Newman, no problem. There will be a ticket there for him if he is with you -- it's on me.
-
Folks, I will be at the admission area at 11:30 am. If you miss meeting up with me there, then I will be at the F4U in the "personal courage" area at 12:00 for meeting up.
I have blond hair, a pony tail, glasses, and I'll be wearing a black shirt (long sleeve, button up) and blue pants.
Here's a picture of me:
http://www.electraforge.com/brooke/flightsims/b24_flights/pics2005/aIMG_010_4151_waistgun.jpg
Also, call my cell phone if you can't find me.

Newman said Mag1c might be able to join us. That would be great. I'll get a ticket ready for him, too, in case he can make it.

Have fun today, wish I was there.

Well, we'll just have to sort that out today in person, me and Silat! :)
I wish you were a Seattlite as well and could join us. I'll miss Rosco, too -- but we'll do it again at some point.
-
I'd like to thank Brooke for a great afternoon at Boeing Museum of Flight! There is a new addition since I last visited dedicated to WW1 and WW2 Fighters, including a Ki43 and Yak9
We were also privy to a discussion with James "Stocky" Edwards, Canada's leading Ace in N. Africa flying P40's and later Spits, Hamilton "One Slug" McWhorter, who flew F4F's off the Ranger in N. Africa. "One Slug" later became the first US Ace in the F6F. Rounding out the discussin was Herbert Ross, a P38 pilot who fought in N. Africa and later Italy.
Listening to these vets was an experience I won't soon forget!
Getting to walk through the Concorde was interesting as well.
Thanks so much Brooke, for the opportunity :aok
We'll do it again, and hopefully a few more of us can make it.
SALUTE!
Newman
-
:cry
-
You are welcome, Newman.
Roscoroo, we'll do it again. They have WWII pilots giving presentations there from time to time. I'll pick another at some point, and we'll go again.
