Title: The "open topic" thread.
Post by: DiabloTX on April 12, 2006, 01:24:22 AM
Ok, since I have to work nights and I am off tonight I thought I'd make a pot of coffee and let anyone discuss/post/contribute/flame/ridicule/scoff/poke fun/or whatever you want to contribute.  Let's begin.

Here's mine:

D. Beckham wants to finish his soc, errr, football career in the U.S.

Should we care?

Going to make the coffee, will be checking this thread all night.

Cheers.

Isn't that what Pele' did? I mean you prostitute you heritage and honor for the bling, right? Isn't that what today's society is all about?

{Jumping in the jaccuzzi with a lady friend and some tequila, don't expect a swift reply.;) }

Now that's an interesting point RPM.  Let's say Beck does finish his career here.  Will that make him a sell-out to his fellow UKers and earn their scorn and derision?  Or would they say, "Go for it mate, take the bling!"

Good luck in the jacuzzi BTW.

He plays for Real Madrid in Spain anyway.

He is just wanting to raise his profile over there so he can make even more money.

But why would he want to do that?  It's not like soccer is all that popular over here.  And it would seem he'd make much more money back in the UK.  Wouldn't he?  Even Pele couldn't get soccer that popular here.  He made an impact, sure, but was it a wise move?

The Beatles are on now...

I dont think its about actual salary from the football club.  it is the sponsorships etc. that he can get while over there.  I guess he must earn approx $180,000 per week from real madrid, all of his sponsorship deals, image rights, advertising etc. probably makes him earn 4 x that amount a week.

The older he gets, the less he will earn playing football, why not move to USA and get bombarded with offers for sponsorship?

Like I said, UK football isn't that popular here.  How much money does he think he could make?  Even the most popular sports stars here don't make $180 grand/week.  Eeek, that's alot of dough.

Does anyone here think Eddie Van Halen still deserves the run he gets?  To me the man is freaking nuts.  Brilliant guitarist but damn, he's really out there now.

you dont get what i mean.  i was saying that the salary he is paid by the club he plays for will not matter, it is irrelevant - all of his money will come from endorsements/adverts etc. and by moving to American it will open up a completely new market for him and raise his profile in the one place he is not a household name.

Anyway, this guy has the marketing potential to make clubs fortunes.  he pretty much single handedly made Real Madrid overtake Manchester United (his former club) as the richest football team in the world (richest sports team in the world maybe?)

Beckham, Ronaldo, Zinedine Zidane, Raul, Luis Figo, Roberto Carlos and Michael Owen have not won a trophy in the past two seasons but sales of merchandise have soared from £45.8m prior to Beckham's arrival to £83.7m.  (~$150m)

Now, 60% of Real shirts are sold outside Spain. Five years ago, that figure was about 10%. Since Beckham's arrival Real have extended their shirt deal with adidas to 2012 and claim 50% of profits from shirt sales - of which Beckham sells more than the rest of the team combined.

Cheney has never worked a day in his life. I'm sure his hands are as soft and smooth as a baby's butt. But to be honest, I'm not sure the boo'ing had anything to do with baseball.

Their lucky that Cheney didnt see a quail and try to throw the ball at it. He would of ended up hitting an innocent bystander

Well, after reading up on The Distillers and seeing all the conflict with past members it doesn't surprise me at all that that happened.  I always get a huge kick out of the apparent dychotomy of how these feel-good lefty musicians that seem to protest war/hatred/venom/anger and they can't even get along with 2 or 3 other people in their own band, usually ending up in a bitter fight ala Roger Waters vs. Pink Floyd et. al. But, that is what happens when you are driven by emotions solely, and what good artist isn't?  Love the music, ignore the the off-stage antics.  But yes, as you said, a very good band.

No dude, I didn't say The Distillers specifically now did I?  I was speaking IN GENERAL.  How many righty/conservative bands you know?  Just a handful.

Okay, then that was one of the most muddled non sequiturs that I've ever seen:

I'm not sure what compelled you to bring left/right politics into the mix when talking about the Distillers... certainly they don't go there. They don't even touch politics. But hey, whatever.

Ok, first, Nash if I hit a nerve, I am so very...nah nevermind.

It was directed at bands in general who are more often than not are liberal in the political views.  All I was trying to illustrate is that after reading the history of The Distillers I noticed that there were a handful of members that are no longer associtated with the band and are no longer talking to them.  That got me thinking about how many bands have been in this situation and of THOSE bands how many aspoused "Peace, love, and an extra hit of smack, yo!" but couldn't even get along with the singer/drummer/keyboardists/cowbell player due to whatever lame reason.  If my grammar was such that you didn't understand it and you interpret it as a non-sequitur (Jim Morrison would be turning in his grave to call it that) I'd suggest re-reading an entry before posting a reply.

Now, about the Axe thing.  It's actually good stuff.  The Snakepeel is a good, cheap exfoliant that works.  If I don't use exfoliant ingrown hairs on my face appear.  Hate the fact that I HAVE to use it but it's cheap and it works.
