Title: SCEPTRE 37 inch LCD........
Post by: humble on April 13, 2006, 01:45:07 AM
I just got mine today (Costco $1495) and its an amazing LCD. I actually bought it for use as my home office monitor but it'll serve as bedroom TV for now (I'll test fly it on AH of course soon). It's a 1080P box so its native resolution is 1920 x 1080.

I included a review link with some better 411.....

I don't know, if I had the spare 1500$ laying around that would be mighty tempting!

$1500 is peanuts for a screen like that.

You need to realize that "we" {wifeack and I} haven't bought a TV since 1994....still have my 4:3 mitisubishi (sp?) 36 in box {damm thing refuses to die:)}. I've been looking at the flat screens for years but never had a reason. I sold my share of a mid sized consulting firm 5 years back and have had a couple guys working for me in a small office since then. we're getting ready to move to TX so I kicked em out:)....this was less than one months office rent and it'll actually be my primary work monitor. So it was really a legitimate business purchase....but only since its native 1080P...basically gives huge amount of hi res work surface....

The fact that it's the mother of all gaming monitors is a extra benifit:).....
I'm waiting on my 7900GT before I move it and try it out on AH etc....but its an awsome TV.....using a $50 radioshack HD antenna....pulled in 19 over air HD stations....unreal....of course now wifeack will want one for bedroom as well....hehe....

If you've got the coin and the urge its a great deal....every bit as good as my 19 in gaming monitor with much higher native res....BTW zero ghosting on high speed TV stuff (nascar highlights, NBA etc) that I saw in one nights use.....

ALMOST the mother of all gaming monitors, but sounds awesome for the price.  FYI since text is small at 1080p, I use Opera zoomed to 180% with extra large fonts and 144 DPI.  Of course, I sit 9 feet from my monitor. ;)   Also, I tried AH @1920x1080p but it chopped off too much vertical real estate. I went back to 1280x1024 ingame res and stretched it within a couple inches of the sides for gameplay reasons.  It still lookes awesome and I can clearly read all the instruments from 9 feet.  Enjoy your new toy.

hehe........I've seen the pictures:).....

I'm actually planning on using it as an actual desktop monitor (big desk though)....gives me as much real estate as running a couple of 21 inchers....

I'm amazed at just how good the picture is on this thing for the price.

How does it run AH?  Any terrible distortion running it widescreen?

My friend paid more than that at Costco for a Visio 37" LCD and it wasn't 1080p.  It still makes a great desktop monitor but you have to sit back a bit from the desk to take it all in at once.  I am sure you get a lot more real estate than two 21" monitors.  I can't find the calculator right now but my 58" has 90% more real estate than a 42".

It runs it fine....you have a number of sizing options under either the monitor or desktop itself. If I run it "zoomed" to fit wide screen you do get a rather wide cockpit and you lose a bit of vertical real estate....if you run it "native" you get the 4:3 inside the widescreen with a black boarder...would be about same as a 29 inch "normal" monitor.

Windows Media Center allows some custom settings I havent really played with but appears that I can set a "formula" between the 16:9 and 4:3....once I figure it out I'll post some screen shots....but all in all its better then any monitor I've seen.....great picture zero ghosting....
