Title: Soccer fans read this...
Post by: Dowding on February 03, 2001, 05:46:00 AM
If you haven't heard of it, there's an online management sim in beta test.

It's called SoccerSim (http://www.soccersim.com).

There are five or six game 'universes' running parallel with each other, and the the number of game turns per real time day (called 'ticks') vary with each game. Each game has about 900 players in it!

I'm not sure if they're still signing up beta testers, but it's worth a look anyway.

I'm in game 'beta3c' and am managing Millwall in the English 2nd Division. You can manage any team in Europe and the Middle East (providing someone else isn't already managing it).

Just for reference, the Millwall team used to have a bit of a bad reputation, the fans even more so.

Cool!  Thanks for the tip, Dowding.  Do you have Championship Manager 5: 2000-2001?

Millwall fans are a bunch of nancy boys.

Leo - I don't have it, no. I had one of the Premier Managers for a while, but got bored of it. SoccerSim is better because you have human opponents, although I doubt that it's as good as the CM series.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

I registered with SoccerSim, but they're filled up, though I on their waiting list.  When I get in I'll probably start 3rd or 4th division.

Sorry to hear that leo.

BTW, you can play any side in Europe.

I started in the Russian 2nd Division (Metallurg Kranyosarsk or something  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)). The English leagues above the Conference League (4th division) are filled up,

Nice one lads. If you have any questions, just ask.

But it's fairly easy to get to grips with (unless you know nothing about football) - it ain't rocket science.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

BTW, applying for lots of jobs isn't a good idea. I think it's quite random how the game decides which club hires you (unless, of course, you choose a high ranking club which has experienced managers - players with rank - applying for the position).

Guys,
Sorry I didn't join beta3c, but one of those ticks happens when I'm asleep.  As it is I'm managing small league stuff here in the Russian 2nd Div. (whew!).  Right now I'm trying to build a staff of 6: two scouts, two coaches, and two physios.  I happened to check an Italian Serie A and saw they had a staff of 15!!! Mama mia!

Post by: Dowding on February 08, 2001, 11:59:00 AM
The scouts are useless - it is far better to do the scouting yourself. I have three coaches, one scout (who I'm thinking of firing) and three physios.

Good leagues to hunt for staff in:

The small leagues with only one human player managing. People rarely look there, and there are often really good coaches to be found. Israel was particularly good if I remember correctly.

If you find you players are completely knackered (=tired), get them in a training session involving fitness training at medium intensity.

Training intensities have a trade-off with stamina. As you'd expect, better results are observed at high intensity, but your player will see a hit in stamina as a result. Less stamina means your player does not play very well and is more prone to injuries.

I guess I'm stating the blatantly obvious, but good luck!  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

You now go into negotiations with the player (takes a while). If he wants he wants to play for your club, he'll suggest a wage and contract. You either agree with his demands, or offer him differing terms.

If he doesn't want to play for your club, you will get an email telling you so. This usually happens when the club the lad plays at is much better than your own (this happens to me alot  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)).

I guess you just have to be patient.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
