Heres the picture to go along with the title. Once again, I'm too lazy to resize pictures. So linky (http://www.r0013636.hostultra.com/images/big%20gulp.jpg)

Heart surgery?
Man, I hope all goes well.
My son just had his tonsils out and I was freaking right out about that!
-
As heart surgery goes, this one is pretty routine. At least thats what his doctor and surgeon said. He has a heart murmur (sp?) and they implant a stint in his heart. But, anything implanted can cause infection so thats what they are watching for more than anything.
-
heart surgery may be "routine" for them , but not for you, hoping for the best for you.
-
I appreciate the sentiment guys. And john, this is definately not routine for me. In fact, no one in my family has ever had heart problems. So, everything I know about it is from friends whom have either had something done, or has had family members who had something done.
-
Hope it goes well estes, my son is the same age, and I know I'd find anything like that pretty worrying.
-
Estes....
I just underwent 2 procedure on my heart. I am 43 and it was ANYTHING but routine to me. May have been for those around me. BUT for me? NOT?
Here's to you and that lil bugger you have there. Best of luck to him , you , your wife and the rest of the Estes family. All will go fine.:aok
-
Good luck with the surgery.
Based on the look in that kids eyes he wont need luck but he's got it wished from me anyway.
Looks like a real scrapper.
Better not dare take that Big gulp away from him LOL
-
The next generation that will be shooting me down in the MA. Hope all goes well sir.

Tonight I'll say a prayer for your son.
-
Well, that kinda puts our problems in perspective. Best of luck; I hope all goes well.
-
Estes,
I hope it goes well for you and your little one. Please keep us updated on how things progress for him. I hope this will be the only surgery he'll need.
-
Best wishes Estes & Lil' Estes, I'm sure all will be well!
-
If the procedure is routine, I wouldn't worry. However, you're a parent, so you will regardless.
-
Thank you all for your kindness and good will. As I have mentioned, no heart surgery is easy nor something to take lightly. But, I have been re-assured by both his doctor, surgeon, and also parents whom's children have also had the same type of surgery.
It has been hectic this last month or so, between his doctor appointments and my neck problem. Luckily I am on several different medications which make it manageable. For now, we are just trucking right along until May 15th. I am also fortunate that the insurance my work provides will cover 90% of all costs.
Again, I thank you all and as soon as I know something I will keep you all updated.

best of luck...and the medical teams skill, at that.

Ah, i'm back home after 5 days of hell. Crappy drive, crappy sleep (those hospital beds blow lol) and just a whole hell of a lot of waiting and anxiety. We got to Cooks children hospital early friday morning and I had him signed in at 9. I talked to the doctor who was going to do the surgery (Dr. Lashus, real nice guy) and the anesthesiologist (kinda goofy, but nice dont remember her name)
The actual surgery didn't last too long, alot quicker than I thought it was going to be. They finished with the actual surgery in about 4 hours, then he stayed in recovery for another 2 hours. After that, they gave us a room and thats where we stayed the rest of the time.
They said he did really well, especially considering how they had to do it. I don't remember details, but they cut the side of him open underneath his arm pit pushed his lungs aside and implanted the device that way. He's doing great now, being some what of a touch-me-not and still a little sore but thats to be expected.
The Cooks children hospital is extremely nice, leaps and bounds above ours here in town. Everyone whom I had contact with was also extremely nice. All the ones here in town are real anal. Very pleasant people to be around.
I was going to stop by grapevine and say hi, but i was so damn tired I just wanted to go home. Again, thank you all for your kind words and sentiment.
Its very much appreciated.

So, how did you hurt your neck? You trying to reach again and fall out of your chair?

Cook's Childrens Hospital is one of the best in the nation. They saved my daughter in 1984.

Glad to hear he's doing fine Este's:aok

First time I noticed as well. You have my best wishes for you, your family & the child.
-
Freakin good news, my one's just had a fever after some vaccinations (pretty normal apparently) and I've been worried non-stop over something as miniscule as that... I can only imagine how something as enormous as yours has experience could weigh down on ya estes.
-
That's great!!!
And in a couple of years, he'll be able to brag in kindergarten about being a cyborg  ;)

Not sure, they said most people who have the same problem got them from a neck injury. And I've never had a neck injury that I know of. So the best they can figure is i was born with it, and over time it got worse.

Glad to hear he's doing well Estes!
