So many movies have been re-made lately, it's hard to keep track. King Kong, Flight of the Phoenix and now the Posidon Adventure, Some are good, some suck. I recently saw the original Howard Hughes production of Wings ( the first movie to win an academy award) Holy Shi#, the air combat in that movie was spectacular, if you havent seen it i suggest you find a copy.
It certainly suffers at times for being a silent film; dialogues have to be displayed on the screen, and this happens quite often because the story here is sometimes quite complex. Not only do the characters talk a lot, but the story also often requires some explaining, and some of the explanations can be quite long.
The action sequences are not as "big" as in they would be in movies today, but they are a lot more impressive in their own way. I was just amazed at how they could have shot some of those sequences; I got the impression that the person who was shooting was probably in quite a lot of danger, because I knew that they could not have used special effects in 1927; what I was seeing was the real thing. It was quite exhilirating to see those old, unsafe, WW1 planes in the air. I do not think that any director today would be crazy enough to duplicate something like this with real planes, so this is probably the only chance anyone has to see these planes in action, and feel like you're right in the thick of a dogfight.

'Teddy Ruxpin and the treasures of Gondo' was a good one, wonder if the animators are still alive?
-
Maybe not a remake but I think a terminator movie (not having arnold in it) after judgement day happens would be cool.
A modern day Red Dawn would be neat as well.
These all depend on how well they are made. I'm not one of those purist types who think remaking a movie or covering a song is blasphemy.
Aside from that Howard Hughes had the largest privatly owned air force in the world in 1927. He might have had the largest period but I can't remember.

Today's Hollywood wouldn't even be fit to remake "Plan 9 From Outer Space". The major studios currently suffer from the opposite of the Midas touch--everything they touch turns to crap.
I can't think of any really great movie that would be improved by the modern studios. Maybe a few silent movies would fit the bill, but most of those that are worth remaking already have been. A version of "Metropolis" that wasn't painfully boring and silly might be interesting.
EDIT: A version of "Citizen Kane" that could actually hold my interest would also be nice. I still haven't seen that movie all at once. I can't bear to watch it for more than about 20 minutes at a time--it's just too crushingly dull. It's one of exactly two movies that has actually put me to sleep, the other being the unimaginative and predictable"Gladiator".

Wings wasn't the Hughes movie... you're thinking of Hell's Angels.
I semi-agree ith JAB... remakes aren't usually better than the originals, so I guess the answer would be to remake a terrible movie. :)
Moe... did you ever see the Great Waldo Pepper? (NOT a terrible movie)

I'd like to see a well made "1984"
-
I want to see Snakes on a Plane remade.

Pearl Harbour. Without Ben.

You're in luck. They re-opened shooting to bring it up to an R rating, in response to "strong internet interest". So it's been remade before it's even released.

Midway
-
Debby does Dallas
-
Spirit of St Louis.
-
Amazon women on the moon.
-
Debbie and Cathy and Sue and Ginger and Linda and Barbara and Donna and Dana and Amber and Eileen and Kelly and Joanne and Ann and Kimberly and Helen and Crissy and Cathy and Colleen and Judy and Darlene and Melissa and Sandra
Do Drediock
Oh that isnt a movie?
Well lets make it then remake it again.
I'll play myself :D
-
The Wizard of Oz
-
Rollerball. The remake they did a few years ago was nothing but pure euro-trash.
-
A modern reddawn would kick ass, without nukes though..
To see the band of WWII reenactors with all their live firing MG's and armored vehicles would kick ass!!
-
i could list a bunch i'd like to see unmade, but nothing needs to be remade.
original content is much more meritorious IMO...actually i'd like to see a reedit of Serpico with my cousin's seen not cut out (he had a closeups, a bunch of lines, got bumped off, then dropped on the cutting room floor)
-
Pearl Harbor starring Arnold Schwarzenegger:lol
-
Skuzzy does Dallas!

They are making a WW1 Air War Movie...
Its called Flyboys, not to be confused with the Book about WWII pilots.
In the last Air & Space, they mentioned it, asking with so much Computer Graphics will there be room for real WWI aircraft.
So stay tuned, Im sure theres more info on the web about Flyboys.
-
Speaking of WWI movies.
Here's one I wouldnt mind seeing remade
"The Blue Max"
As long as they dont use the same type horrid special effects they used in the Empire State Buiding scene in latest remake of King Kong
-
Not a remake, but . . .
With the minor resurgence of WWII pictures, a battle that I think practically BEGS to be made is the battle off Samar Island / Leyte Gulf. True heroism that reads like a Hollywood script.
As long as it is done well, like Saving Private Ryan, and not like that stupid Sean Penn garbage on Guadalcanal (Thin Red Line, I think??).
-
A movie about OJ played by Benson & his wife by Krause would be buttocks kickboxing
-
In Harm's Way or From Here to Eternity would be great ones to remake, but it would be hard to outcast the originals.
Decision Before Dawn (http://imdb.com/title/tt0043459/) would be a great pick as well. This is an excellent movie about sending German POW's back to Germany as allied spies. The original is in my Top 5 list.
Strategic Air Command is another I'd like to see, but it would be impossible to make unless it was total CGI.

Not impossible. Models. I'm not kiddin.. a 1/4 scale turbine powered models are utterly convincing.

Models could be used.
But it wouldn't be the same.

They used a lot of models in "Empire of the Sun". Couldn't really tell the difference.
-
In 'Aviator' they used models and CGI.. the models looked real. The CGI scenes looked.. CGI.

I second that motion!
-
Attack of the Killer Tomatoes
-
Anything with Tom Cruise in it.
-
Skuzzy does Dallas!
I'd pay to see that one!
Anyway. I'd pay to see "Starship Troopers" done. Note how I did not say 'remade.' The first movie doesn't count because it missed the mark by too far.
The TV show is closer, however it was a kids show and just couldn't show how brutal the war was. (It was a really well made show though).
-
The Phantom Menace.
-- Todd/Leviathn
-
a version of the Joseph McConnel story with good combat sequences

Only if they used Dina Meyer in it again, that girl is beyond hot.
-
Jarhead without Jamie Fox:aok
-
I second the motion for a remake of Jurassic Park....with all of the political correctness excised from it.
In the book, the wild-life expert and big-game hunter played a major role in helping the main characters survive. Some pinhead decided that the "cruel, red-eyed hunter" couldn't be allowed to live. Instead, the big-city character played by Jeff Goldblum got to save the day.
On a related topic...whaddya wanna bet the crocodile guy finds a way to get himself eaten someday?
-
I would like to see "Green Berets" done again, but done well. First one was too hookey.
-
Top Gun with more air combat action
-

The problem is that the character 'Dizzy' is actually a guy...

The Battle of Britain.........

One of my fave war movies...If it is redone, have it like Tora Tora Tora where the Brits film their side and the Germans do their's.(& keep out hollywood producers/actors)
-
it could be done the other way around, the gremans playing the RAF as a bunch of pompus etonian queers, the brits playing the LW as baby eating, leather clad deviants. John Cleese as (s)hitler, lol
-
hell yeah on "Jurassic park". just seeing john hammond getting eaten by compy's would rock :aok in fact follow the WHOLE book.... whoops they did that piecing parts into the 2nd and 3rd movies :mad
someone mentioned "spirit of st. louis".... you can't re-create the tension with jimmy stewart in the cockpit alone and over-tired. there is no actor capable today IMHO.
speaking of Chriton... "Congo" could be awsome if it followed the book better and the CGI wasn't the crappiest evar done. hell the violence in the book would almost make it NC17.
"the andromedia strain" could be re-done kind of cool
"used cars" would be cool to see redone :aok
"clash of the titans" could be jazzed up.
-
"How I learned to stop worrying and love the bomb" but I cant decide who would have step in and fill Peter Sellers parts? Steve Martin? Jim Carey?
Maybe substitute USSR with Bograslaviadiakisnkminsk.....
-
The Big Red One...but as I write this I wonder who could even come close to Lee Marvin.
-
Actually Id like to see an original movie for a change. One Id like to see done is King's Gunslinger series.

Tom Hanks

Not a remake but an original based on the book "Last of the Breed" by Louis L'Amour. I remember reading it in high school and thinking how cool it would be to see this made into a movie.

as for new movies i always wanted "red storm rising" made into a war epic. it would be a 5 hour movie though LOL. it would not be worth it unless the did the whole book, not skiping stuff, and shortening the story. make it 2 movies, both 2.5 hours, filmed all at once, released a month apart. if done right it would be the most expensive movie evar made for sure.

Tommy Lee Jones, Mark Harmon (maybe) Harrison Ford
could remake "The Guns of Navarone" and/or "Force Ten from Navarone" also remake "Where Eagles Dare"

My Dinner With André.
I'd buy the DVD and send it to Skuzzy for when he can't sleep. :lol

Is that one with the American Indian pilot captured by the Soviets?
-
not really a new movie re-made but I would like to see Al Pacino come on the Sopranos and show Tony how to really run a mafia family :) He can be the new boss of New York since Johnny Sac is in jail :) Is it me or is that show running out of ideas.

Thats the one and the actor I would cast for the lead role would be Daniel Day Lewis.
