Everyone has one law on the books in their home country that they despise with a pation.
If you had the power, which law (from constitutional down to local) would you repeal?

Daylight Savings Time
-
The Tax Code.

legalize marijuana

Not having Daylight Saving Time. A blinding Sun at 4 a.m. is no picnic.
(Trivia for the really pendantic: it's Saving Time, not Savings Time.)

The bottle deposit law. Five cent deposit on every bottle/can you purchase...buy a 12 pack - sixty cents. Can't smash the cans to save space before taking them to recycling, because the bar code needs to be visible to get the deposit back. And to make it extra annoying, most retailers will only take back the products they sell, so you can't mix up your cans from different stores unless it's carried by the store you're taking them back to. Not to mention the fact that this surely boosts the cost of the beverages to offset the manufacturers' handling costs.
-
murphy's law?
-
SOB's dilemma is made even worse by people like a buddy of mine who used to take truckloads of cans when he visited relatives in a neighboring state which has the deposit. Usually it more than paid for his gas for the trip, as the stores were happy to take common brands like Pepsi.

The law that allows Californians to move to Oregon. The bottle deposit law, started in Oregon, is one of the best laws since Moses came down from the mountain. Any true Oregonian would agree.

The "you can't shoot liberals and anti-gunners for fun" law. :D

You're going to have to forgive me, I blatantly misspelled passion. I'm sorry, I just got back from a weekend of screaming out orders to incompetant sailors WHILE trying to race at the same time. I'm a bit stressed.
The one law I would can would be the Eminent Domain law. It is truly the one law I do not understand. Err, I understand how it works, I just can't understand why the founding fathers put it in there.
Plus I despise the idea that you have no choice over what happens to your land.

yup I'd have to agree. Especially with the latests SC ruling that says local govts can take your land and give it to walmart for the "sake of the community"

the law that says you cant force welfare recipiants and criminals to participate in old school roman gladiatorial games, for a weeks worth of gruel.

Heh, perhaps that's true. I'm from Wisconsin where pop is cheap, and I remember the ease of just crushing the cans and tossing them in a bag - then taking them to the recycler to sell them by the pound once or twice a year.
I do like the law against Kalifornians though...but I think that should just be a federal law.
-
Well lets make it two laws.
The tax code ANDThe law in the city of Auburn, AL that states:
Men who deflower virgins, regardless of age or marital status, may face up to five years in jail.
One more from the state of Tennessee but this is contradictory due to sorority houses on college campuses.
More than 8 women may not live in the same house because that would constitute a brothel.

Fallacy. That's an urban myth. That law doesn't exist.

Why must you pee on the flames of the intardnet rumor mill. I was just seeing how long it would take for someone to laugh about that.

Amen to that.
However I would revise the Cal laws relating to P.O.S.T, Police officer Standards and Training, they regulate the laws / rules of who can become a cop and what standards applicants must meet. Many cities hiring policies far exceed basic POST standards, I'd like to see POST standards raised to the level most depts hire at... so that depts like LAPD cant continue to lower standards to meet racial quotas.
When I hired on, in 1990, on average 3% were hired county wide regardless of race. LAPD re-configured thier policies, on average less than 1% of male whites were hired while a staggering 12% of 'minorities' were offered the same jobs.
LAPD did this by requiring white males, like myself, to score a minimum of 98% on the oral score, for all others 70% was passing. But a 98% was low for a white guy, I scored 105% thanks to a 5% military bonus and scoring 100%
We all saw what happened with the Rampart scandal. Another bi-product is whats known as the "soul patrol", white officers are bitter at having to be 'over qualified' to hold the same job 'others' were almost handed, briefing rooms were often times split down the center; white guys on one side, soul patrol on the other.
Another side effect of lowering standards at LAPD was a mass exodus, they had to put a hold on early retirements; too many people wanted out and the quality officers got so horrified at who they were working with they left to other departments. Torrance PD is LAPD south, they took a lot of the sharp LAPD guys.
LAPD now requires you to sign a 5 year contract, if you leave before then they'll sue you for the cost of training... basically your forced to work there, something I cant imagine, being a cop is the funnest job in the world and I looked forward to most every day just because it was so much fun...
LAPD has turned into a rag tag inept joke, they are hiring people other depts reject, then losing the few good people right at the 5 year mark.
Id rewrite the hiring policies state wide so only the best most qualified applicants would get hired, regardless of what they looked like.

Newtons third law.
This one always gets me in deep doo-doo. we don't need it anymore.

There would be over 100,000 deaths each year if there were no parking tickets. Think emergency vehicles and fire trucks.

I think 10 years first offense would be in order, we must control the situation here, this type of behavior leads to terrorism ya know.
All hail the STATE!!!!
